BORN TO RULE Chapter One: The Prophecy Long before the great kingdom of Aderin became famous for its wealth, beautiful palaces, fertile farms, and powerful warriors, there lived a wise king named King Adewale. King Adewale had ruled Aderin for thirty-two years. Under his leadership, the kingdom had grown from a small collection of villages into one of the strongest kingdoms in the region. Traders travelled from distant lands to buy Aderin's famous fabrics, gold ornaments, cocoa, spices, and handmade tools. The king was respected because he was fair. He listened to his people and never made important decisions out of anger. However, there was one thing that troubled him deeply. He had no child. For many years, the king and his wife, Queen Amara, prayed that they would have an heir who would continue the work they had begun. The kingdom needed someone who could protect it after the king was gone. One rainy evening, Queen Amara finally gave birth to a baby boy. The palace bells rang throughout the night. The people gathered outside the palace, celebrating the arrival of the prince. King Adewale entered the room where his wife lay resting. In her arms was the newborn child. "What shall we name him?" the king asked. Queen Amara looked at the child and smiled. "His name shall be Prince Damilare." The king gently touched the baby's forehead. "Damilare," he repeated. "A child who has brought us joy." The following morning, the king summoned the kingdom's oldest prophet, Elder Babalola. The elderly man had served the royal family for decades. He was known throughout Aderin for his wisdom and ability to understand the traditions of the kingdom. When Elder Babalola arrived, he looked carefully at the baby. For a long time, he said nothing. Then his expression changed. "What is it?" the king asked. The old man sighed. "My king, your son is not an ordinary child." Queen Amara became worried. "What do you mean?" Elder Babalola looked toward the window. "Your son was born under a rare sign. He will one day sit on the throne of Aderin." The king smiled. "That is expected. He is my only son." The prophet shook his head. "You do not understand me, Your Majesty." He moved closer. "Prince Damilare will face great trials before he becomes king. People will betray him. Some will try to destroy his reputation. He will lose people he loves. He will be tempted to abandon his destiny." The room became silent. "But there is more," the prophet continued. "His greatest enemy will not come from a distant kingdom. His greatest enemy will be someone close to the throne." King Adewale's face became serious. "Can you tell me who?" Elder Babalola shook his head. "That knowledge is hidden from me." He looked at the newborn prince. "But remember this: a person is not born to rule because of a crown. A person is born to rule because of the character within them." King Adewale never forgot those words. Years passed.
