Five: Kaydence

1178 Words
Kaydence ran for her room, no way this was happening. Not now. She had hoped her mate didn’t see her before she darted out of the dining hall. That was the last thing she needed, was her mate to see her in the condition she was in. She was mess. Her copper curls were tied up into a thick ponytail, her black hoodie and black leggings stained from making food for the event, and she didn’t have real shower, so she was sure she didn’t smell the greatest either. She ducked into her room, slamming the door and leaning against it. Her breath was ragged and shallow from running. Mist wasn’t happy. Why did you run from our mate? He could be our ticket out of here. Mist whined in her head. Mist, did you see him? The way he was dressed? He’s a high-ranking wolf from another pack. Kaydence ran her hands over her face, trying to get her breathing under control. She could still smell him. His scent was engraved in her mind. So what? He is from another pack, he could get us out of this shithole pack. Mist had a point, that was IF he accepted her. Before she would even look at him again, she had to know who he was. Let’s go find his room. Mist pranced around in her head before fully taking control of her body. Mist! No! We would be killed if we were caught in someone’s room. Kaydence knew better than to go snooping around where she didn’t belong. Mist wasn’t listening to her. Before she knew it, Mist had her out of her room and headed up the stairs to the third floor. Mist! STOP! It was no use. As they ascended the stairs, thier mates scent grew stronger. Mist kept Kaydences body moving until they stopped in front of a closed bedroom door. Open it. Mist urged her. The scent was driving Kaydence mad, she couldn’t help but reach out and push the door open. Her mates scent flooded her nose as she stepped inside closing the door. She gazed around the room, she had cleaned it before and it was one of her favorite rooms in the pack house. She loved the color scheme of black and red. As she dragged her absinthe eyes around the room, they came to rest on a laptop that was sitting open on the bed. Hesitantly, she sat herself on the bed, and began searching through the laptop. It belonged to Grayson Marshell, Alpha of Marshell Lake pack. The sound of footsteps outside the door caused her to slam the laptop shut. I’m f****d! She thought to herself. She held her breath as she heard Gemma’s voice outside the door. “.. yep, this is his room. He’s so dreamy, and he’s an alpha!” Gemma’s voice grew louder as she opened the door. Kaydence was frozen in place, sittin on an alphas bed where she shouldn’t have been. As the door creaked open, Gemma’s eyes met hers, and instantly Gemma’s face turned beat red. “YOU!! What are you doing in here? This room belongs to Alpha Grayson.” Gemma lunged at Kaydence, knocking her off the bed and onto the floor. Kaydence put her hands in front of her face to shield herself, but it was too late, Gemma had her grumpy hands around Kaydences throat. Kaydence gasped for air as Gemma choked her. Her vision started to get blurry. Let me out! Mist yelled in the back of her mind. Kaydence didn’t want Gemma knowing she had gained her wolf, not yet. Just as she was about to black out, a loud voice shook the room. “GET YOUR HANDS OFF OF MY MATE NOW!!” The voice was authoritative and deep. Gemma released Kaydences throat and jumped off of her. s**t! s**t! s**t! Kaydence tried to stand but was weak, she instead sat herself up and coughed a few times. Warm arms circled her waist and lifted her from the ground and gently sat her on the bed. “The rest of you, OUT!” Kaydences eyelids fluttered, seeing Alpha Darius, Luna Destiny, Callen, Gemma and her pack of sluts leaving the room. Our mate slammed the door behind him, and turned on her. Instinctively, she raised her hands in front of her face to protect it from whatever he was about to dish out to her. What happened next absolutely shocked her, instead of getting angry and lashing out at her, the male climbed into the bed next to her and just held her for a minute. This was completely new territory for her, it had been years since anyone had touched her in a gentle way. Her mind couldn’t handle it, she quickly moved away from him, tears streaming down her face. “I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I know I shouldn’t have been in here. Your scent drew me and my wolf here. I’m sorry.” Her voice was broken and raspy, most likely from Gemma damn near choking the life out of her. She was a blubbering mess, no doubt making a fool of herself in front of her mate. If he wasn’t going to reject her before, he would now. She curled herself into a ball in the corner of the bed, her hands covering her face. She peeked through her fingers, seeing her mate watching her with a soft expression. He reached his hand out and rested it lightly on her knee. “Oh, honey, I don’t care that you were in my room. In all honesty, it made it easier for me to find you.” His words were quiet, soft and full of care. “My name is Grayson Marshell, I am the Alpha of Marshell Lake pack. More importantly, I am your mate.” He offered her a gentle smile. She moved her hands from her face, her absinthe hues meeting his. His eyes were like the ocean, calming and so blue. She gawked at him for a moment before clearing her throat, wincing slightly. “I am Kaydence Har—.” Kaydence stopped herself short. She almost gave up her true identity. She didn’t need anyone knowing she was a Harloquin. “I, uh, I’m Kaydence Green. I’m an omega of Dutch Mountain.” Kaydence gauged his reaction. All he did was lift an eyebrow, those ocean blue eyes staring into her soul. “Kaydence Green? Are you sure? You don’t sound sure.” Grayson watched her face twist, he knew she wasn’t being truthful. But given her reaction to him a moment ago, he knew she probably had her reasons. Still, he was curious to know he true identity, he was her mate after all. Kaydence watched the male as he became lost in his own thoughts, she knew he was figuring her out, or that Mist was probably spilling all her secrets to his wolf. After a moment, his eyes widened, and at that moment, she made a mad dash towards the door.
