Episode 7: The Shadow Within
The forest had never felt this alive before.
Elena stood inside the broken cabin, staring at the golden light still glowing beneath her skin. Her hands were trembling, but not because she was afraid.
Something inside her had changed.
The power that had awakened within her was no longer a strange feeling. She could feel it moving through her veins, responding to every heartbeat, every thought, every emotion.
And somewhere beyond the cabin walls, the forest was responding to her too.
The trees whispered even though there was no wind.
The ground beneath her feet seemed to pulse like a living heart.
Adrian stood only a few steps away, watching her carefully.
“Elena,” he said softly.
She looked at him.
“What am I?”
Adrian didn't answer immediately.
That silence frightened her more than any answer could have.
“What am I, Adrian?”
He finally stepped closer.
“You're someone they were afraid of.”
“Who?”
“The people who have been hunting you.”
Elena's heart skipped.
She looked toward the broken doorway. Outside, several rogues were still standing among the trees. They hadn't attacked again.
They were waiting.
Waiting for something.
Or someone.
“Why are they afraid of me?”
Adrian's jaw tightened.
“Because your power isn't ordinary.”
“Then tell me the truth.”
“I've been trying to protect you.”
“No,” Elena whispered. “You've been trying to hide the truth from me.”
Adrian looked away.
For the first time, Elena noticed something in his eyes that she hadn't seen before.
Guilt.
“You knew,” she said.
Adrian remained silent.
“You knew this would happen.”
“I knew something might happen.”
“And you still brought me here?”
“I didn't have a choice.”
“You always have a choice!”
Her voice echoed through the cabin.
The golden light around her hands suddenly became brighter.
Adrian immediately stepped back.
“Elena, calm down.”
“Don't tell me to calm down!”
The windows shook.
The floor cracked beneath her feet.
The rogues outside took several steps backward.
Elena stared at her hands in horror.
“I didn't do that.”
“I know.”
“How?”
“Because your power reacts to emotion.”
She swallowed.
“Then what happens if I lose control?”
Adrian's expression became serious.
“Then everyone around you could die.”
The words froze her.
For a moment, even the forest became silent.
Elena slowly lowered her hands.
“You're afraid of me too.”
Adrian looked directly into her eyes.
“No.”
“Then why do you look at me like that?”
“Because I'm afraid of what they'll do to you.”
Before Elena could respond, a deep growl came from outside.
The rogues turned toward the darkness.
Something was coming.
Adrian immediately moved in front of Elena.
“What is it?”
“I don't know.”
“You said you knew this forest.”
“I know the forest. I don't know everything that lives inside it.”
A low sound echoed between the trees.
Then another.
The rogues began backing away.
One of them whispered something.
Adrian heard it.
His face changed.
“What did he say?” Elena asked.
Adrian didn't answer.
“Adrian?”
“He said the Alpha has arrived.”
Elena frowned.
“The Alpha?”
Adrian's eyes remained fixed on the darkness.
“Not just any Alpha.”
A figure slowly appeared between the trees.
Tall.
Powerful.
Covered in a black cloak.
The rogues immediately lowered their heads.
Even Adrian became still.
The stranger walked toward the cabin without making a sound.
Elena could feel something coming from him.
It wasn't like Adrian's presence.
It was colder.
Darker.
And strangely familiar.
When the man finally stepped into the moonlight, Elena's breath caught.
His eyes were silver.
Bright silver.
They looked almost exactly like hers.
The stranger stopped.
For several seconds, he simply stared at Elena.
Then he smiled.
“So,” he said quietly, “you finally awakened.”
Elena's heart began pounding.
“Who are you?”
The man's smile disappeared.
“You don't remember me.”
“I've never seen you before.”
“Of course you haven't.”
He looked at Adrian.
“You made sure of that.”
Adrian stepped forward.
“Stay away from her.”
The stranger laughed.
“You still think you can protect her?”
“I don't think.”
Adrian's eyes began glowing.
“I know.”
The stranger's expression became colder.
“You haven't changed.”
“And neither have you.”
Elena looked between them.
“You two know each other?”
Neither answered.
“Adrian.”
He finally spoke.
“He's the reason you were hidden.”
The stranger smiled again.
“My name is Kael.”
Elena felt a sudden pain in her head.
Images flashed before her eyes.
A woman holding a baby.
A burning village.
A silver moon.
Someone screaming her name.
And then—
darkness.
Elena grabbed her head.
“Stop!”
Adrian rushed toward her.
But before he could touch her, a wave of golden energy exploded from her body.
Everyone was thrown backward.
Trees snapped.
The cabin walls shook violently.
Elena fell to her knees.
Her breathing became heavy.
“What is happening to me?”
Kael stared at her with something that looked almost like sadness.
“Your memories are returning.”
“I don't want them!”
“You don't get to choose.”
Elena looked up.
“Why?”
“Because the truth is already inside you.”
The golden light around Elena's body began changing.
It wasn't completely golden anymore.
Dark shadows moved through it.
Black veins of energy twisted around her arms.
Adrian's face went pale.
“No.”
Kael looked at him.
“You know what this means.”
Adrian didn't answer.
Elena noticed.
“What?”
Adrian looked at her.
“Elena…”
“What?”
“Your power has two sides.”
She stared at him.
“Light and darkness.”
The words barely left his mouth when the ground beneath them split.
A deep crack appeared across the forest floor.
From somewhere below came a terrifying roar.
The rogues began running.
Kael didn't move.
Neither did Adrian.
Elena slowly stood.
“What was that?”
Kael looked toward the crack.
“The reason you were never supposed to awaken.”
Another roar shook the forest.
Then something emerged from the darkness.
Huge claws.
Black fur.
Eyes glowing red.
Elena stepped backward.
“What is that?”
Kael's expression hardened.
“The creature that has been waiting for you.”
The beast climbed out of the earth.
It was enormous, far larger than any wolf Elena had ever seen.
Its body was covered in black fur, but strange silver markings ran across its chest.
The same markings Elena had seen in her vision.
Her breathing stopped.
“I know that symbol.”
Kael looked at her.
“You should.”
The beast suddenly lunged.
Adrian transformed in an instant.
His wolf slammed into the creature before it could reach Elena.
The two beasts crashed through the trees.
Elena watched in shock.
Adrian fought with everything he had, but the creature was stronger.
It threw him across the ground.
“Adrian!”
Elena ran toward him.
Kael grabbed her arm.
“Don't.”
“Let me go!”
“If you go near him now, you'll make things worse.”
“What are you talking about?”
“The creature isn't here for Adrian.”
Elena looked at him.
“It's here for me.”
Kael nodded.
“Yes.”
The beast turned its red eyes toward Elena.
Adrian tried to stand.
“Elena, run!”
But Elena couldn't move.
Something inside her was pulling her toward the creature.
Not fear.
Recognition.
She stepped forward.
“Elena!” Adrian shouted.
She ignored him.
The creature lowered its head.
A strange silence spread across the forest.
Then it bowed.
Elena froze.
Kael's eyes widened.
“What?”
The creature bowed again.
Adrian stared in disbelief.
Elena slowly raised her hand.
The golden light returned.
The creature moved closer.
Instead of attacking, it touched its forehead against her palm.
The moment they touched, Elena screamed.
Another vision exploded inside her mind.
She saw herself as a child.
She saw the same creature standing beside her.
She saw her mother crying.
She saw Kael standing in front of a burning castle.
And then she saw Adrian.
But he was younger.
Standing beside her.
Holding her hand.
Elena opened her eyes.
“You…”
She looked at Adrian.
“You were there.”
Adrian couldn't speak.
“You knew me.”
His eyes filled with pain.
“Yes.”
“You knew me before I lost my memories.”
“Yes.”
“Why didn't you tell me?”
“I tried.”
“No!”
Her voice broke.
“You lied to me.”
“I was ordered to.”
“By whom?”
Adrian looked toward Kael.
Elena understood.
“You.”
Kael nodded.
“Because if you remembered who you were, they would have found you.”
“Who?”
Kael looked toward the northern mountains.
“The royal bloodline.”
Elena stared at him.
“What royal bloodline?”
Kael stepped closer.
“Your blood.”
He pointed toward the glowing mark on her wrist.
“That mark belongs to the last Moonborn Queen.”
Elena's face went blank.
“Queen?”
“You are not just a wolf.”
Kael's voice lowered.
“You are the heir of the Moonborn.”
The forest seemed to disappear around her.
Elena couldn't breathe.
“No.”
“You were hidden because the Moonborn were betrayed.”
“By whom?”
Kael's eyes moved toward the darkness.
“By someone who is coming for you now.”
A distant howl echoed across the mountains.
Then another.
And another.
Adrian suddenly looked toward the northern trees.
“They've found us.”
Kael nodded.
“How many?”
“Too many.”
The rogues began returning, but this time they weren't alone.
Hundreds of glowing eyes appeared between the trees.
An army.
Elena looked around.
Her fear slowly turned into something else.
Determination.
She had spent her entire life believing she was weak.
She had spent years wondering why she never felt like she belonged anywhere.
Now she finally understood.
She hadn't been lost.
She had been hidden.
And someone had just found her.
Adrian walked toward her.
“Elena, whatever happens, stay behind me.”
She looked at him.
“No.”
He frowned.
“What?”
“I've spent my whole life hiding.”
She looked at her glowing hands.
“I'm done.”
The golden light around her body intensified.
Kael watched silently.
The enormous black creature stood beside her.
Adrian's eyes widened.
“Elena, you don't know how to control it.”
“Then I'll learn.”
A powerful howl shook the forest.
The army began moving.
Elena took one step forward.
Then another.
For the first time, she wasn't running away from the darkness.
She was walking toward it.
And somewhere beyond the trees, a voice whispered her name.
“Welcome home, Queen Elena.”
Her eyes flashed gold.
The battle had begun.
