NOVALIE’S POV

—

Having Luca stand right next to me while the moon shines down on us through the big window , it’s like something from a romantic cartoon movie .

It makes Sofie extremely happy and I could feel her excitement .

‘Let him stay .’ Sofie begs , but I ignore her completely .

I am not putting myself in danger because she’s in love with a stranger .

‘If I could recall , you were head over heels for Brent after he took you home after buying you hot chocolate the same day you met him .’ Sofie’s judge mental tone has me rolling my eyes .

He was kind , Luca just kidn*pped me and shoved me into a tower with no way out .

What if this castle lights up in a fire ?

How would I escape ?

‘When the time comes , I will help , but right now all where I want to be is right here , with him .’ Sofie’s love struck tone has me feeling worried .

She doesn’t see the danger in this .

“It’s late , you should sleep .” I mutter , hoping he would catch the hint and go away .

My entire body reacts to him , my insides tighten when he lets out a deep breath , I could feel my cheeks heat whenever I feel his eyes on me .

It’s weird how I know what he does without looking , it’s like my body feels what he does .

I hate it .

‘And I love it .’ Sofie beams and I bare my teeth , hoping she would just shut her snout completely .

“Are you going to sleep ?” The low tone he’s using has me clenching my thighs , “I will definitely try .” Even thought I doubt I would be able to sleep in this hell hole .

‘It’s a castle .’ Sofie corrects me .

I know what it is , but to me , it is a hell hole .

“Then I guess I should leave .” He murmurs , but something tells me that is the opposite what he wants to do .

“Yep .” I murmur , my toes wiggling as I impatiently wait for him to turn and leave .

He stands there for another minute , staring at me and my cheeks start to heat up .

“Can you not ?” I mutter , biting down on my tongue . Having him staring at me so intently that I feel it on the inside of my body is overwhelming .

I can feel things that I don’t think and I hate it .

“What ?” He asks obliviously . I am a hundred percent sure that he knows what I mean .

I snap my head towards him , my chin tilted upwards , “Stop staring at me .” My demand comes out like a plead , making me mentally curse myself for being so weak .

A low chuckle escapes his lips and my eyes flick down to his body , his muscles are impressive , but why doesn’t he have a shirt on ?

Am I wearing the only one he has ?

“Look , I don’t mean to make you feel uncomfortable ..” he starts , “Then don’t .” I interrupt him .

“But I can’t help but look at you .” He shrugs , as his shoulders lift and fall , I notice his biceps tense , the veins popping like it’s their natural spot .

Dragging my eyes back to the window , I realize how much I want to stare at him

“I somewhat get that , but I grew up as a human , not whatever the hell I turn into .” I grit out , “A werewolf .” He mutters and I roll my eyes .

“See ? That’s only a fairytale . It’s not true , except it is now and it’s all very confusing .” I drag my hand over my forehead before raking my fingers through my hair .

“I can explain it to you if you want .” He shrugs .

I turn my head and look back up at him , the more I look at him , the more my heart feels like it’s stopping .

“I’m good .” All I want is for him to leave me the hell alone .

He does the unexpected and sit down , Sofie howls in my head and I flinch at the sound .

“What are you ..” , “Come on , just let me tell you the things you missed out on .” His smile is so genuine and his eyes hold kindness , but I think this is what psycho’s also look like .

“I don’t want to know .” I sigh , my eyes darting to the wall beside me and then back at him .

His green eyes seem so dark , probably because the room has really bad lighting .

“Of course you do .” He argues and of course he would know what I , a complete stranger to him , wants .

‘Don’t be so harsh .’ Sofie warns and I wish she too would just go away , except , she lives in my head .

Is this what having a twin is like ?

“How would you know what I would want ? You don’t know me .” I state the obvious and it makes him frown .

He better not be a baby and tell me that I just hurt his feelings .

“I want to know you .” He states , making me roll my eyes .

“And who said I want that ?” I ask , raising a brow at him .

“Well do you always want to feel clueless ? Do you want to feel out of control ? Your wolf can take over on a full moon you know .” His eyebrows raise momentarily and I must admit , he grabbed my interest .

“Sofie can do that ?” I ask with wide eyes .

“She can .” His tone is so neutral , I can’t tell if he’s lying or not .

If what he is saying is true , then I am going to ..

‘To do what ? You can’t control me .’ She scoffs and anger build up in my chest .

“I want to learn control .” I blurt out , determined to find out how to put my wolf in her place .

“It might take a while , but we can start in the morning .” He shrugs and I bite my tongue , I want to learn right now .

I want to be able to shift on my command , not hers .

‘Boo hoo .’ She teases me .

“I want to learn now .” I admit and his eyes widen , a smile tugging at his lips .

“It’s impossible to learn it in one night .” He straights his back .

“I get that , but I want to start .” I feel like a needy child .

“Sure , I can explain it to you .” He offers , but he sounds so unsure of himself .

I nod , urging him to continue .

“So to control a wolf , you have to be able to control how you feel , when you feel and how to shut off any surge of anger that might trigger you to shift . Wolves are smart , they are thousands of years old and get replanted when their former person dies .” That makes my eyes go wide , “So they’re reincarnated ?” I ask and he nods .

“They are intelligent and they are what makes us smart and strong .” He explains and it feels like my mind is going to explode with this knowledge .

Who knew wolves could reincarnate ?

‘I did .’ Sofie beams so proudly , it gives me a headache .

“We as wolves , learn to speak and walk earlier than any human when we’re mere toddlers because our wolves talk to us , teach us and encourage us .” He smiles and everything feels like a movie .

Sitting with my back against the hard stone wall , I stare at him as he continues to explain .

“Our wolves gaslight us when they want to shift because the energy of anger courses through us to them and we shift because they take control . It’s very smart but annoying for us .” He sighs , shaking his head .

“So earlier , she gaslighted me and I triggered the shift when she took control of the energy ?” I ask confused and he nods , “With the help of the full moon . I bet you felt annoyed today , like you could just snap and claw at everyone .”

Well that is true .

I nod .

“It’s the effect on full moons , they bring our wolves out but when we as wolves have learned control of our feelings , we control the shift .” He shrugs .

“So then when I learn control , she won’t be able to make me shift on another full moon ?” I ask for clarification and the guilt creeps up on his face .

“If you could learn it that fast , we have seventeen years to perfect these controls before our wolves came , you don’t have seventeen years .” He mutters apologetically .

“I need seventeen years ?” I bellow , staring at him with wide eyes .

He starts to laugh , “No , you don’t . You’re seventeen right ? So you have the capability of learning and understanding . You could learn it in a month or two , maybe three .” He shrugs and my lips fall agape .

“I have to stay here that long ?”

His smile falters into a frown , the wrinkles on his forehead leaving me feeling stupid .

“You can’t just go back to your old life .” He points out the obvious .

“But if I learn control , I can .” I feel determined to get out of here .

I get he loves me , but I don’t love him .

“No , you’re mine .” His voice comes out low , his eyes dark like the night , almost pitch black and he stands up from the bed , muttering an apology .

“I .. my wolf just .. sorry .” He murmurs and I could truly tell he was sorry .

“It’s okay .” I hate being nice .
