I went white with shock, a shiver of cold fear slithering down my rigid spine. That uncompromising threat electrified me. All of a sudden, Garnet’s spiteful allegations no longer seemed quite so fanciful. Grant was already letting mw know that if our marriage failed, he would fight to retain custody of our daughter. Was it at all possible that he might also be planning to use me for as long as he needed me to get June settled in... before disposing with my services as a wife and mother altogether? Or was that a paranoid suspicion Garnet had managed to plant in my mind?
"You are scaring me," I whipsered in a surge of involuntary candidness.
"You scare me Lucy. It's barely twenty four hours after we exchanged vows and your are already hauling out a suitcase. It won't be like before."
