Too Close To Control

277 Words
The tension finally snapped that evening. It started in the training hall. Ended against the wall. Ryan moved first. Fast. Controlled. But his hand catching Aria’s wrist wasn’t gentle. “Tell me what’s happening to you,” he said, voice low. Aria’s pulse thundered. “You first, Alpha.” His eyes darkened. Dangerous. Interested. Then Too close. Too warm. His breath brushed her lips and her wolf practically purred. For a heartbeat… Two… Ryan’s control cracked. His forehead dropped lightly to hers. “Aria…” he breathed. The way he said her name this time? Not confused. Not curious. Possessive. And somewhere in the shadows… Selene was watching. Ryan didn’t step back. If anything… he stepped closer. Aria’s breath thinned as his presence pressed into her space heavy, dominant, impossible to ignore. Her wolf paced wildly now, restless beneath her skin. Dangerous timing. Very dangerous. “You feel it too,” Ryan said quietly. Not a question. A statement. Aria forced her chin up. “Feel what?” His eyes dropped briefly to her throat to the pulse that was definitely betraying her. Her stomach flipped. Ryan’s voice lowered. “That pull.” Heat crawled slowly up her neck. Her wolf practically purred. Traitor. “I don’t know what you’re talking about,” she lied smoothly. Ryan’s jaw flexed. One step closer. Now there was barely space between them. “Careful, Aria,” he murmured. “I can hear your heartbeat.” Oh. That was unfair. Her wolf pushed forward hard a low vibration building in her chest before she could stop it. Ryan froze. His eyes darkened. And for the first time His control visibly slipped.
