Chapter 7When Josh left the main house, he was directionless. All he knew was that he had to get away. The urge to flee was so strong that when he reached the city limits he just kept going, taking the road that wound up to the ranger station on top of Burnt Mountain. There was a lookout three quarters of the way up that was one of his mother’s favorite spots. She would often take Josh there on picnics, and many times Silverbane would join them. Before the peak of the mountain, there were several scenic view drive-offs. Josh pulled up to a dirt parking lot that overlooked the valley. Down below he could barely make out the frame of the Silverbane main house. It was impossible to remain in Wolf Creek and not be reminded of the dominance of the family.
