**Reika/Zara**
Stephan seemed to hear my request to Snow as he shot me a deathly glare and looked at the dog as if challenging him to carry out the task
A pitiful whine escaped Snow and he raced into my lap.
“Bully!” I spat and laid back in the grass.
Myron gave a low bow to Stephan as he approached us.
“When did you get back in?” He asked Myron.
I could feel his gaze moving over my body and rested on my face. I ignored him and pulled Snow closer to my chest.
“Last night. I was informed you had retired by the time I came to report.” Myron answered.
There was almost no similarity between the two of them. Myron looked like a beam of sunlight, lighting up everything in its path while Stephan was a personification of the darkness.
I could feel his blue eyes watching me and I rolled my eyes and turned away.
“Did it go well?” Stephan answered.
“Yes.”
“Zara have you gotten the burn treated?” I stiffened, finally recalling the angry welt of flesh on my arm.
In response to his question, the spot stung, sending bolts of pain to my brain.
Another hassle. Why didn't I have a wolf?
“Not yet.”
“Why?” Stephan barked.
“Because I didn't want to. It's none of your business what happens with my skin.”
Stephan stepped back, one hand on his waist while the other found it's way to his eyes which he rubbed vigorously.
Oh well, I surely couldn't resist poking at him.
“You need to get your burn treated now.” He spoke through gritted teeth.
“I don't want to move from here.”
“I'm going to drag you by your legs if it means you getting your burn treated.’ he snarled, approaching me with a look that said he meant business.
“You wouldn't dare!” I growled, holding onto Snow as if he could protect me if I was dragged off.
“Uhm..I can take a look at the burn. I’m a doctor.” Myron perked, his hand raised and his face showing he'd rather be anywhere than caught between a bickering session of the Alpha and Luna.
“Oh really. That will be great.” I softened my voice into an unusual sweet version and sat up.
I folded the sweater up to my shoulders, exposing fair milky skin which seemed to glow in the sunlight.
Damn, Zara really deserved the position of a mistress. Sofia could never hold a candle to this.
Through the corners of my eyes, I watched Stephan's face dissolve into a fit of rage, the blue in his eyes tinged with a mix of red and his fist clenched.
I ignored him and turned to Myron who knelt in the grass and took my hands in his.
“Is it really serious?” I asked, blinking my lashes at Myron.
This might complicate things for him later but I was having too much fun trying to make Stephan erupt.
“Not so much. You have to avoid moisture touching the area and apply ointment so it doesn't scar.” Myron answered and withdrew a jar of ointment from his pocket.
His fingers traced slow circles along the length of my arm as he applied the lotion and just to further irk Stephan, I threw my head back and imitated a shiver coursing through me.
“That's enough!” He barked, seizing my hand from Myron and dragged me off.
“Let me go!” I whipped my hand out of his grasp and plopped down on the grass again.
Myron stood, his head bowed to the ground and an embarrassed flush coating his skin.
“ Report to your quarters and submit a report detailing your mission.” Stephan instructed as he grabbed the ointment from Myron.
I watched in amusement as a relieved sigh left Myron's lips and he hurried off. Snow chose to stay back with.
Ohh my first ally!
As he departed, Stephan turned to me, his face black as a thundercloud and eyes flashing.
“You're not supposed to expose your skin to anyone except your husband!”
“The last time I checked, we weren't married and my position as Luna is still pretty shaky.
What's wrong in finding more admirers? Besides I don't think the elders will be so opposed if I was with your brother.” I smirked, the ire in his face fueling the glee that coursed through my skin.
Stephan was one word from totally exploding and I was looking forward to every bit of it.
Reika stop! How is he ever going to mark you this way?
“Your position is not shaky! The elders have no say in my decision, they are just concerned.”
“Hmm…that's not what it seemed like. Who knows what they could have said when I left? From all indications, it seems like their control on you is strong.
You can't blame me for looking out for myself.”
I laid back on the grass, their stalks tickling my wrist and waist, Snow resting his head in my thighs and a volcano close to erupting.
Bliss.
Stephan clenched his fist, exhaling from his lips with a calculated pace.
Oh boy, he's going to need an oxygen mask to breathe by the time I'm done with him.
“I'm not going to speak about this anymore. Like I said, no one else is meant to see you body.
Your personal doctor is a female and the only one you're allowed to go to whenever something is wrong with you.
Not my brother!” He barked.
I rolled my eyes.
“Whatever you say, Alpha Stephan. Give me the ointment.”
He threw it into my lap, startling the puppy.
I closed my eyes, listening to the grass dance in harmony with the wind, the slow tapping of Stephan's boots on the ground and Snow's heavy breathing.
“Your position isn't under threat, Zara. I chose you for a reason and nothing is going to change that decision.”
“I didn't ask for an explanation. I don't care. I'm bound to you whether I like it or not, I have no family, no money and no identity of my own.”
“You have family, Zara.”
Wait! I do?
I peeled my eyes open, rising from the grass in a heartbeat but my words were cut short by the arrival of Kyren.
Fuck! I didn't expect rage baiting him to yield some results.
I had a family? No—Zara had a family. Maybe they could explain who she really was, what her aim was in this palace.
Perhaps they could even hold some clues about what dangerous alliance she was involved with.
Damn, I needed Stephan to spill everything.
He and Kyren spoke in a low tone the creases on his forehead growing deep as Kyren spoke.
A flash of pain raced through his eyes and his nostrils flared.
Shit! Did he discover something about me?
I waited with bated breath for him to head back in my direction, drag me to my feet and throw me into the dungeons.
Snow rose from my laps, his nose dancing in the direction of Stephan before he raced into the field and disappeared behind some flower bushes.
Stephan stormed off as soon as Kyren stopped speaking without a glance in my direction.
Great! I was safe for now.
But what was going on?
“Luna Zara?” Kyren called, picking my handkerchief that had fallen into the grass.
“The Alpha requested that I escort you back to the clinic for your injuries to be properly examined.”
That son of a b****
“Fine!” I let out a sigh and followed Kyren back to the palace.
