Jane had always loved her hair. It was fiery red and fell down long lengths in tight curls..... even when she was younger and much too skinny for such volume she loved her hair!
the years had been kind she was still petite but she had filled out just right and now that voluminous hair was beautiful against her too pale skin.
she stood looking at herself in the mirror wandering would today be the day she hacked it all off. She couldn't bring herself to do it but everytime she looked at it in the last 5 years she wanted to cut it all off.
She quickly packed it all in a very tight bun and set her outfit of the day on the bed. She was running late, she loved to get down to the kitchens and have a nice quiet cup of tea before the guests started waking up.
She ran the Moonfly Inn and it was in the human part of the Blood Moon Pack. She loved living in the human part because it allowed her to stay grounded to her roots without the pressures of pack life. The Blood Moon Pack was one of the largest packs in the US. Jane had grown up as park royalty because she came from a long line of Betas; her brother was serving the current alpha as his beta. Initially they couldn't fathom Jane moving out of the Pack, but after so many conversations they agreed on the condition that she stayed in the Human Part of Town close to the pack and came home for all special occasions.
Jane was thinking or trying not to think about the reason behind her wanting to cut her hair off. After her shower she walked back into the room and eyed her Outfit, so many things change so many things stay the same she thought to herself as she pulled on her customary black dress, to her you could never go wrong with black. She was making her mental list as she ran downstairs to the kitchen.
"Hi Isabel.... Sleep good?" She asked
I did Hun. There's some hot water in the kettle already. You're down later than usual. I was about to come up and check if you were ill" Isabel replied
Isabel was the kitchen Manager and a chef extraordinaire. She was also Jane's closest friend.
Not ill love just couldn't get myself out of bed this morning" Jane replied
"You dreamt of him again?"
"You know me too well. I hate that I'm so predictable" Jane said
"You are only predictable to me Hun and that's only because for some inexplicable reason you let me in" Isabel responded
"Enough chit chat! I've got to get through my list" Jane said as she pushed off the kitchen counter with her tea.
She walked to her office still putting things on the list. She had started at Moonfly in when she showed up over four years ago as a maid Mr Grayson (the owner) always said she rose so quickly through the ranks because she was fated to be there.
Mr Grayson believed in the supernatural and fate and destiny too much for a human Jane thought to herself whilst shaking her head.
Walking into her office and sitting down Jane shook her head as if to clear her thoughts and focus on the day ahead; she started rolling her calls on the answering machine while checking the late night bookings on the website.
The Summer Ball was approaching and that meant she would have crowds of the wolves from other pack coming into stay. They never had any Ranked wolves as they would always stay in the Pack House but other wolves who came for the functions were usually put up by their alphas in the hotel.
she quickly wrote a note reminding Isabel to double up on the grocery shopping for the 4 days they would be available.
she was making the note and looking at the reservations trying to get a head count when she noticed it. The Alpha of Crescent Lake Pack wanted a room alongside his pack members.
she wrinkled her brow, this was strange. She had a niggling feeling at the back of her mind but she just couldn't place a finger on it. She made a note to inform Mr Grayson and quickly put it out of her mind. She had to make sure it was just the wolves booked in the hotel for the duration. Less the 50% of the human population of their town knew about the existence of wolves and they tried to always limit their exposure. Once she was done she walked out and started the day properly.
The kitchen staff were already putting out breakfast and Housekeeping was already moving about: the Moonfly Inn was always busy, she loved it this way. It kept her too busy to worry about anything else. She could always only focus on the task at hand which for her was making sure that every guest of the Inn had a tremendous stay.
