20 Rob I woke up at the sound of someone crying. At first, I couldn’t remember where I was. The room was unfamiliar. It was dark, and I checked the clock on the table and saw I’d slept for hours. It was almost midnight, and as my eyes adjusted to the lack of light, I heard the crying again. The sound was coming from inside the house. Anna. I hated the sound; it cut through my gut and I wanted to rush to her and comfort her. Did she know I was here? Was that why she was crying? I didn’t want to scare her. I found my cell phone and put it on vibrate before texting her. Me: Heard Mark’s been to see you? How are you? I miss you. The phone beeped, and the crying subsided. It sounded like she was rummaging through her bag and had trouble finding it. I heard what I presumed were Danish swear
