I took a long, hot shower, trying to calm myself. I washed my hair vigorously while shaking my head. James had his own agenda and would try to use those stupid tabloid rumors as ammunition against Rob. I should have seen that instead of being so naïve. The water did little to calm my rage, so I rinsed my hair and wrapped myself in a luxuriously large, soft towel. My phone rang. I rushed into the bedroom to get it. “Hi!” I answered enthusiastically when I saw Rob’s name on the screen. There was a momentary silence, then he cleared his throat. “Hi, are you home?” His voice was gravelly. He sounded like he’d been on a massive bender. “Yeah, I’m finally home, thank God!
