As the sun set and bathed the garden in orange hues, Rob whispered in my ear, “Time to go.” I didn’t want to leave, but we had a second party to go to. Susan and Brian had offered to host a birthday party, as their place was bigger than Rob’s, so we had to say goodbye to Rob’s family. It had been a magical afternoon. Lots of conversation and plenty of delicious food. I’d tried helping Sandra in the kitchen, but she would have none of it. “You’re a special guest,” she’d said, and had handed me a glass of champagne.
