17 Rob There’s nothing as sobering as thinking your loved one is dead. Anna lay lifeless on the hood of the red Ford Mondeo. The earth stopped spinning, and all of London’s sounds were muted. My legs gave way under me as I tried to run, and my knees hit the asphalt with blunt force. I moved in slow motion, like in a nightmare, as I got up and made my way towards her. Mark and the driver were helping her. I needed to see if she was still breathing, but gravity pulled me down, and it took forever to get to the car. When I finally reached her, there was blood on her face. Mark and the driver, a tall man who was unscathed, helped her off the car and put her on the ground.
