“Here.” Booth jostled me in his arms so that he could reach into his pocket. He produced the small witch stone that began to glow as he handed it to Zoe. “Shove it in your pocket at any sign of trouble.” Zoe nodded, took the stone, and glanced at me only once before she began to hurry down the steps ahead of us. “It’s the first door you come to,” Booth called after her in a hushed tone, and I saw her wave a hand before disappearing around a corner in the staircase. We were plunged once more into darkness as she disappeared, and I found myself nuzzling closer to Booth. “Don’t worry,” he whispered. “I promise I won’t drop you.” “I trust you,” I mumbled and felt the muscles in his arms tense at the words.
