Chapter 5: The War Within 2 The next few days passed in a blur. Alessio kept his distance, and for the first time, Eva wasn’t sure if she liked it. It was easier to hate him when he was constantly there, constantly reminding her of her cage. But now, as the silence stretched between them, doubt began to creep into her mind. Then, one evening, he returned. “Come with me,” he said, his voice void of emotion. Eva hesitated. “Why?” “You’ll see.” Curiosity warred with defiance, but in the end, she followed. He led her through the mansion, down a corridor she had never seen before. At the end of it was a heavy wooden door. He pushed it open, revealing a dimly lit room with a large desk, leather chairs, and walls lined with bookshelves. On the desk, a single file sat waiting. Everything she had fought for, everything she had believed—was it all a lie? When the door to her room opened, she didn’t react. Alessio stepped inside, his presence filling the space. “You hate me,” he said. Eva didn’t deny it. “Yes.” “And now?” She turned to face him, her eyes searching his. “Now… I don’t know.” Alessio crossed the room slowly. “You have two choices, Eva. Continue fighting me, or start fighting for yourself.” She exhaled shakily. “And what if I don’t want either?” He smirked. “Then you lose.” Eva narrowed her eyes. “I never lose.” Alessio reached for her, his fingers brushing her cheek. “Then prove it.” Her heart pounded, but this time, it wasn’t just from fear.
