Chapter 1: The Debt Eva never imagined that her fate would be tied to Alessio DeLuca, the man she had known since childhood. They had grown up together, but their paths had diverged when he was sent away to become the perfect heir to the DeLuca mafia empire. When he returned, he was no longer the boy she remembered. He was the man who would change her life forever. The Bargain The night it happened, Eva was in her bedroom, unaware of the storm brewing downstairs. Raised voices filled the house, her father’s desperate tone contrasting with the cold, measured response of the man who now held her future in his hands. “You know the rules, Lorenzo,” Alessio said smoothly. “A debt to my family is a debt that must be paid.” “I—I just need more time,” her father stammered. “I swear, I’ll—” “There is no more time.” The finality in Alessio’s voice sent a chill down Eva’s spine. She clutched the edge of her vanity, her breath shallow. She had heard whispers of the DeLuca family’s power, but she never imagined her father was tangled in their web. A moment later, heavy footsteps ascended the stairs. Her door swung open, revealing Alessio’s imposing figure. The sight of him—tall, dark-haired, his sharp features betraying no emotion—made her stomach twist. “You,” she breathed, taking a step back. “What are you doing here?” He tilted his head, watching her with the patience of a predator. “Your father can’t pay his debt,” he said simply. “So I’ve come for what’s owed.” Her heart pounded. “What do you mean?” Alessio stepped closer, and the air between them grew thick. “You, Eva.” She shook her head, disbelief coursing through her veins. “No. No, this can’t be real.” “Your father made a deal,” Alessio continued, his voice soft but unyielding. “And in our world, deals must be honored.” Tears burned in her eyes as she turned toward her father, who stood in the doorway, looking defeated. “Papa?” “I had no choice, Eva,” he whispered, his voice breaking. “If I didn’t agree… they would have killed us both.” A heavy silence filled the room before Alessio reached for her hand. His grip was firm, unrelenting. “Pack your things,” he ordered. “You leave with me tonight.” Eva wrenched her arm away. “I’m not going anywhere with you!” His dark eyes flashed with something unreadable. “You will. One way or another.” She wanted to scream, to fight, but deep down, she knew there was no way out. She could run, but Alessio would find her. He always got what he wanted. And tonight, what he wanted was her. --- The Ride to Darkness Eva sat rigid in the backseat of the black luxury car, her hands clenched into fists on her lap. The city lights blurred past as Alessio sat beside her, his presence suffocating. His men flanked them in the front, their silence just as oppressive as the man beside her. “You can’t just take me like this,” she muttered, turning to face him. “I’m not a thing to be owned.” Alessio’s lips curled into a slow, dangerous smile. “You are now.” She gritted her teeth, her nails digging into her palm. “I will never be yours.” He reached out, brushing a strand of hair behind her ear. His touch sent a jolt through her, but she refused to flinch. “We’ll see about that, dolcezza.”
