5: Aliens learned to fly first

764 Words
I stand up in one swift motion. Remembering what Ahsen told me, I dash back inside the cave. She had told me not to step outside, but I did. I've probably been out there for hours, however long an hour is over here. Now I have to face the consequences. My eyes dart towards a sleeping Ahsen. She doesn't know. We need to get out of here and hide somewhere else. It isn't safe here. I can imagine a hundred reasons why we shouldn't be here. Shivering, I peek outside through the curtain of the vine. I can see the thing I mistook for stars. They are much closer than before, confirming my suspicions. If I am discovered by them and if they are coming for me, then, if I am not wrong, they will take me back to that horrible white place, beozi house, again. Who knows what they will do once they have me. I can't let them have me again. I need to talk to Ahsen about this. I rush to her side, poking her shoulder with my finger. "Ahsen!" "Ahsen!" "Hey. Ahsen!" "Ahsen! Wake up" Why won't she wake up? "AHSEN! Wake the hell up!" I think maybe slapping her will work, but it probably isn't the best idea. Finally, she opens a single eyelid to look at me groggily, muttering incoherently. I clear my sore throat as I start, "So, I know you told me not to go out, but I did, and now I think we've been found. I may be jumping to conclusions when I say this, but I think those may be the people we've been avoiding. I think some phoenixes are flying here like right now." Ahsen looks at me like I grew another head but then sighs and rolls off the cage floor. She doesn't seem very nervous. Now, honestly, I am doubting what that was in the sky. I walk with her to the cave entrance like a worried puppy following his master. Peeking through the curtain of the vine, she looks up at the sky. The expression on her face shows that I mistook the fireballs for phoenixes, but then her face contorted to show pure horror and panic. She stares out with the same expression on her face for almost a whole minute as I get more impatient every second. Finally, bringing up enough courage, I clear my throat. She doesn't acknowledge me at all. She didn't even bat an eyelash. Whatever it is, it is not good. "So those are NOT phoenix coming to capture me, keep me in an extreme asylum in Beozi house, and possibly behead me?" I ask. "No. It's much, much worse."Ahsen speaks, surprisingly calmer. "Those are airships. Coming straight for us. They will hit our lofte if we don't move the lofte or leave the lofte ourselves." Ahsen spoke, almost as if she were in shock. "Airships? Does that mean aliens learned to fly first, before humans, and to top it off, some are falling out of the sky, probably about to hit us, like right now? Wow. That's a lot to take in." I say dumbfoundedly. "Obviously." Ahsen sighed. A loud crash outside, followed by the ground vibrating, startled us. Both of us tip-toe to the entrance, with Ahsen ahead of me. Drawing the curtain of vine back, Ahsen pokes her face out of the cave. Being slightly shorter than her, I look outside on my toes. The airship had crashed on the ground, almost right under our lofte. Well, that was a close call. The airship looked like something out of a marvel movie but smaller, much smaller than I imagined it to be. There was smoke surrounding it, blocking most of my view. I look at the horizon, blocked by another lofte. Fortunately, or unfortunately for us. What Ahsen didn't notice was something, or someone, on the lofte obstructing the horizon. I did. A man. Pointing a g*n. Aiming directly at Ahsen's head. My breathing hitched, and acting on pure instinct, I push Ahsen to the side, hard enough for her to stumble. As she mumbles her protests, I stare at the man who was about to shoot her as he lowers his g*n to the ground. Why did he drop it? Is Ahsen his target, or am I? Do they even know me? I didn't have time to do anything but stare as almost twenty men appear behind him faster than my eyes can follow. All armed with guns. Pointing at us. Shit. I think we are in trouble. Don't you?
