“You tell him!” Santee spun away and marched out. “Men,” she sniffed. She didn’t want to. Would have done just about anything to avoid it. But Joe said Suzie was dying under her mother’s passive/aggressive sympathy. On the one hand, Suzie should never have gone out there to that despicable Lover’s Lane. What would people think she’d gone there for? On the other hand, no man had the right to do what he did, even if Suzie had kind of been asking for it by being out there in the first place. What would people think he’d done to her? The room was on the same floor, just two doors down and also had a guard sitting outside, a woman this time. Santee was on the approved list and was allowed inside to a room that could have passed for a gift shop all on its own. At least a dozen Get Well balloon
