Robbie
The braking made all of the passengers pushed forward from their seats – resulting in Newton's first law. Robbie, who was currently chatting with his little sister on the phone, launched him until his forehead hit the front seat. He dropped his phone from his weak grip. Dude! Don't hit the brake like that.
As the bus door opened, he closed his chat with Ruri.
"I arrived. I gotta go now, Ruri. Love ya,"
"Love you too," Ruri replied with a heart emoticon.
Robbie stowed his cellphone in his coffee-colored skater backpack. It's uncommon for students here to use their own backpack instead of the school's bag. But as long as it is allowed, Robbie doesn't have to care at all. He followed Mullet and walked out of the bus, making the bus is completely empty. The white-blue metallic bus speeds away as it leaving its whole passengers.
The second Monday of school. Robbie recalls the time when he still hated Mullet, but that was just the last wind. Now he doesn't mind following him, or He followed Robbie. But it's just a little awkward. He walked over the brick-red school path. The students who walk into the school turned on the atmosphere from being abandoned.
Some students looked at Robbie and Mullet while they're walking. Some students are talked about the duo, while some of them are chatting about other things. The variations of their tie color diversify their class.
"I want to walk with him,"
"They look like brothers, right?"
"Gosh, they're so cool!"
Their flatteries made Robbie and Mullet a little blushed. He walks a little faster to lose those students. Robbie shuts his mouth tightly and followed Mullet, who also walks faster. But while they're walking, a first-year student walked past them. His footsteps were faster than them both. He faced down to the ground as possible, while his eyeballs straightforward. A menacing aura radiated within him as he was walking. He clenches his fist and his teeth like he was furious and about to avenge someone. But something odd from that student. He singing a nursery rhyme with replaced lyrics repeatedly and sounds horrible – make the meaning very dark as possible.
"Hehehe..."
The boy's skin looks dead pale as he was walking past Robbie. None of the students noticed his dead roleplay. He kept walking deadly into the school building. Robbie, who looked confused, slowed down his pace like an out-of-gas car. What is wrong with him?
After Robbie changed his shoes together with Mullet, he walked away from the shoe locker. Again, Robbie encountered that boy. He gazed dead to that 17-year-old boy while he continues singing the dark nursery rhymes like a psychopath.
La la la...
He repetitively sings the nursery rhyme with a dreadful meaning. But Robbie didn't fathom the boy's purpose. His body language is hard to know, apart from chances he will fight with someone, but maybe not him or Mullet.
"Hey, Hayato. What's the matter, dude?" his friend asked.
"Shut up, Ren," Hayato paused his nursery rhymes to shut him.
"Yeah… whatever. Come on, the class will begin in a couple of minutes," Ren noticed.
Hayato walked away from Robbie, but he continues looking down and sings the nursery rhyme while he's walking to his class. Robbie followed him as the route was in line. He followed Hayato until they both entered their class. Class 1-2.
The social studies begin in class 2-1 as the time reached 8:00. As usual, Mr. Miyamoto writes some topics on the chalkboard before he begins teaching the students. The orderly situation makes the class silent, except for the chalkboard sound scribbles on the clean green chalkboard.
After Mr. Miyamoto writes Modern Social Starvation on the chalkboard, he starts speaking.
"Alright, kids. As you know, these days, social problems require something like the lab rat, but not all of them. Remember, you can't make an omelet without breaking some eggs. So it's huge respect for those who lost their lives to feed us with some lessons in civilized manners,"
He took a breath before continues speaking, "As you all already know. After the death of Lamar K. Sanchez, the world knows if we are starving of civilized manners. That's why in 1975, The Day of Inquisition between the US and Mexico brings a huge change in social matters. Even though it's outdated, it is still used as the bedrock or the main stone of the social transformation theories until today. Now I want to know from you. What is your opinion about why the Inquisition Day should be held?"
Nino stands up as she has been called, "In my opinion, it's because of juvenile delinquency that happened since the mid-'60s. Since that day, many people think if degenerates are tolerable. I guess…"
"Good," Mr. Miyamoto applauded her, "Any other ideas? How about you, Nakata. Do you have an opinion?" he glared at Robbie as the boy focused on the scribbled green chalkboard. Robbie stands up and speaks up.
"Uhh… In my honest opinion, it's not only juvenile delinquency in the mid- '60s, but also moral decline, and most people forgot their mainland. It ends up a huge social gap and starving between the utopian and dystopian vintage,"
The rest of the students glared at him as Robbie expressed his opinion. They applaud Robbie because of his answer, including Mr. Miyamoto, who lifts his eyebrows, amazed by Robbie's opinion that was beyond his mind.
"That was a great opinion, Nakata. Yours are the strongest one. Great job!"
The whole class fell silent again as Mr. Miyamoto continues his lessons. Robbie cluelessly looked at the whiteboard instead of looking at Mr. Miyamoto while his ears tracked with that teacher's lessons. Robbie's mind flows with the lessons. This is the first time he could focus on it, even he had learned this one last week. Mmmhmm… yeah… okay.
2 hours later, The lesson changed. There's nothing happened to Robbie. He didn't get any kind of messages written on his eyeballs, agonizing screams, or even weird call from anyone. His mind was very calm. Apart from the fact he didn't see Hideki until today (He saw the bullies walked together before, minus Hideki, who wasn't walking with them). Although Hideki is a bully, Robbie felt under the weather when he thought about him.
Meanwhile, in class 1-2, Hayato is still sitting dead like before. He didn't focus on the lesson in the past 2 hours ago. The time moved to 10:12 AM. While the teacher is writing a math question on the chalkboard, his head ducked down, and his eyeballs try to look forward as he could. Anger and will to kill overwhelmed his brain as he was about to burst out. He breathed hard as he could. His breathing sound from his nose was loud. Loud enough to be heard by Ren.
"Yo, Hayato. Be quiet, dude!" Ren looked back and admonished him. But Hayato didn't comply with his friend, who sits in front of him.
He continues breathing hard and ducks his head. He counts his breathing. He did it 13 times before he did that normally for a few moments. After then, his right hand slowly reached his bayonet attached underneath his seat by duct tape and hides the bayonet behind his lower arms to remain unnoticed. His smooth movement wasn't noticed by the class until he stowed his army bayonet inside his pocket.
"Haah… haah… haah… haah…"
He continues to breathe louder and growls like an angry shepherd. His voice irritates Ren as he can't focus on the lesson. He turned his head back and scolded him again, "Hayato, shut up. Sensei will be mad at you,"
But again, Hayato didn't comply with him. Felt sick with his crazy behavior, Ren scolded him even louder and stomped his fist on his table, "Dagnabbit! Shut up!"
Ms. Takahashi, who was about to ask someone to solve the question written on the chalkboard, got interrupted by Ren's yelling. The stomping sound from Ren annoyed her.
"Excuse me. What is going on here?" Ms. Takahashi asked them with a grouch.
"No, nothing. I was just warned Hayato to shut up," Ren explained.
"Right, if I see you guys quarrel again, both of you'll be outside of my class!" Ms. Takahashi warned them both, then she changed his topic, "Now, as I was saying. Who can solve this question?"
A girl stands up, "Can do," She walked to Ms. Takahashi to take the chalkboard. And he starts writing the answer. Meanwhile, Ren looked front and ignored his weirded-out friend. His resentment still remains in him. Hayato breathes loudly again four times before he is counting down.
"Haa… Haa… Haa… Haa…"
"Five... four... three... two... one..."
Just after he counts down, he took out the bayonet off his pocket and charged his attack. He brutally stabbed Ren's back neck until he pierced his bayonet through his neckbone. He stabbed Ren's neck five times (including the first one) before he stands up. The whole class panicked and rushed out like startled cats. Some of them stumble while they're running out to save their lives.
Hayato pursued the students after he left the class. Only Ren's body was sitting stiffly with his blood poured out from his neck. He continued to attack the whole first-year students before he walked upstairs to target the second-year and third-year students. The atmosphere on the second floor becomes gruesome as the students running for their lives. Unfortunately, Hayato runs faster than most of them, and some of the students are stabbed and slashed while repetitively sings some dark-themed nursery rhymed – making them severely injured.
Back to class 2-1. Robbie folds his arms as he is waiting for lunchtime. The ideal situation still remains inside the class, no one's speaking as they listen to the lesson from the Teacher. Robbie tapped his whole finger to the table to kill his boredom while listening. The book on the table lies neatly, and the page shown is 76-77. The pages aren't blown off from the outside wind as he pressed it with an eraser.
While Robbie is listening to the lesson like a usual student, his ears caught something odd, like a bunny who just heard something dangerous will come to him. He slowly rotates his head 60 degrees clockwise. His eyes glare at the back door of the class, which catches his attention. He heard some footsteps, and it has a fast tempo. It seems someone's running in the hallway. Who's running right now, and why the heck?
Suddenly, several first-year students running into the third-floor hallway. Everyone inside the class looked to the left, where some of the students were stained with blood. Some of them also stumbled while running. As those students ran for their lives (Literally), a boy slid open the back door violently and alarmed the whole class.
"Everyone! GET OUT OF HERE! There's a stabber in the sch-"
GUWAAAA!
The blood bursts from his back – stained the green doorway with blood. He immediately collapsed on the spot. He agonizingly crawled away from Hayato by using his arms while his blood gushed down from his gashed back – making a small puddle of blood and painting his uniform in b****y red.
Meanwhile, Hayato standing still behind the lacerated boy. His whole uniform is now utterly dyed by blood. The bayonet from his hand is colored red. Hayato's head ducked down while his eyeballs looked forward, then he shows a psychotic smile before he starts singing again.
Hayato laughs crazily and charges forward to them all. The whole student ran out of the class frantically without caring about the obstacles in front of them. Weirdly, they are all too afraid to stop him. They pushed each other to save their lives. Some of them tumbled down while they're rushing out. Robbie followed the whole classmate, but he was pushed while running. He crashed into a chair and tumbled down like a drunk person.
Robbie quickly got up on his feet and rushed out of the class. Looks like he had to choose the Don't be a hero option. He knew that it's too risky to apprehend the knife from the kid that he doesn't know his name - unless he was brave enough to defend his bucket from being kicked. He keeps sprinting down the hallway, passing some students who are dead running from Hayato.
Robbie went downstairs, where several first-year students are heavily wounded. The hallway turned into pools of blood with some students who lay dead (but still alive). The hallway turned into pools of blood, with some students crawling for help. Robbie walked among the half-dead bodies of the students as his nerves asked him to do so. He has no idea what drove him to walk, but he felt someone maintains his brain like a possessed person.
Robbie looked at those wounded students. The cuts on their bodies were varied. Most of them were slashed or stabbed in the legs, arms, and upper bodies, but not at their neck. The blood flowing fresh from their injuries brushed the hallway with a morbid red color. Suddenly, a girl grabbed his left leg. Robbie gasped and reflexively turned his head to her like a jumpscare.
"Please… save me..."
Her agonized groan made Robbie feel sorry. He directly put his left arm under her thigh and his right arm behind her neck – carrying her without worsening her stab wound on her midriff. But when Robbie was about to lift her girl, Robbie saw Mullet, who also walked downstairs and looked at the severely injured students like a lost kid in the middle of a warpath. Hayato sneaked behind him unnoticed, and he was about to swing his knife to Robbie's back.
"Robbie! Behind you!"
Mullet's shout made Robbie knew if he was about to be stabbed behind. Without looking back, Robbie bowed down quickly. But he lost his balance as the girl weighed him forward and made him fell down with the girl. As a huge advantage, Hayato tried to stomp Robbie with all one's might. But the girl pushed him away from Hayato's stamp, and she shrieked agonizingly as her arm was the exchange. She can feel her bone was broken when her lower arm was crushed. Blood came out from her mouth as she coughed from the pain.
Hayato swung his bayonet at Robbie when he was getting back on his feet. Robbie quickly apprehends Hayato's right arm to restrain him. Robbie's strength was strong enough to restrain Hayato's attack. His muscle inflates a bit as it contracts. But suddenly, Hayato pulled back his left arm and quickly reached something in his left pocket.
"Senpai! He has another knife!"
Robbie quickly disengaged and stepped back from Hayato as he wields another knife and swings it to repel anyone. He recoiled without looking back as he has no idea how to stop Hayato from his killing spree. Suddenly, Hayato screeched to him weirdly.
"Senpai, they're already painted the canvas… Why don't you PAINT it too?!"
Hayato growled loudly and laughed maniacally. Robbie's mind completely messed up as he was utterly disturbed by the macabre situation. He keeps stepping backward until he and Hayato passed the class 1-4. Suddenly, Mullet came out of class 1-4. He carries a chair from the class and swings it to Hayato.
"Hey!"
Mullet smashed Hayato with the chair fiercely. His body was thrown against the window of the class – breaking it into shards. Hayato lost his grip and dropped one of the knives. Robbie quickly kicked his calf to make him fall, then Robbie pulled Hayato's arms behind and interlocked his movements. Mullet quickly seized the bayonet from Hayato's grip. At last, Hayato finally under arrest, and some teachers approached them.
"Good! Keep him secured, don't let him move!"
The teachers cuffed Hayato's arms like police officers and confiscated his knives. Meanwhile, the girl clutches her midriff to bear the stabbing pain. Her skirt and her blazer were now full of blood. She didn't move due to her injuries. Mullet approached her and carried her carefully to not make it even worse. When Mullet was about to walk away from the hallway down to the exit, the girl halted him.
"Senpai, wait… Robbie-senpai..."
Mullet halted and called Robbie, who already let go of his hands from Hayato.
"Senpai… Ren-kun… Ren-kun… he's inside the class 1-2..."
After she told Robbie to go to the class that he meant to go, the girl pat Mullet's arm to go. Robbie abandoned the scene and rushed to class 1-2 like a runner. As he reached the doorway of the class, and he slides it open. He was dumbfounded as he sees Ren's carcass sitting dead on his chair, his clothes dyed red fresh from the blood from his neck. His eyeballs are staring upright with no direction.
"Oh god… no…"
The gory situation in the class made Robbie nauseous. He suppressed his urge to throw up as he could. All his muscles were limp, and he looked lethargic. He kept looking at Ren's dead body thoroughly before he called the teachers.
"Anyone! Come here, Quick! Someone died here!"
Another teacher rushed to class 1-2. They're also bewildered by Ren's sitting carcass. The b****y and messy class frightened them all. A teacher asked someone to take a white sheet of a blanket from the infirmary to cover Ren's body. While he and Robbie made a sturdy bed from three tables and laid down Ren's body on it.
"It's okay, kid. Now go to the assembly point. We got this under control,"
Robbie obeyed the teacher's instruction and walked out of the class. He walked through the hallway, where some wounded students are still clutching their pain. Their blood brushed the tiles in the hallway like a living paintbrush. The school is in a bloodbath (apart from the third to the fifth floor that remains spotless), and blood scents filled the school. Robbie imagined if this school will be haunted a few days later.
Robbie picked up a girl who lay on the stairway. She cried out not only because of her pain but the hellish nightmare she experienced just now. Her hand grasps the wound from both of her b****y thighs. Tears kept running down from her beautiful eyeballs. But now, she felt a little bit relieved because Robbie saved her.
After Robbie brought the girl to the ambulance, he walked to the assembly point where it's located near the school park. Most students have been sitting there since assembly time. He sits next to Nino, who looked scared, and she doesn't want to talk to someone else. Robbie fathoms with her feeling, and he just glared at her for a second until Robbie's sight got distracted by some wounded victims taken out of the school with a hospital stretcher. After 3 minutes of sitting at the assembly point, the teacher calmed the whole students. And asked them all to go home afterward due to the school was too messed up to continue. All of the students get their backpacks and walked out of the school.
Robbie finally arrived at his home. He walked to the backyard to pick up the key hidden under a flowerpot. The grass was wet as it moistened with a lawn sprinkler every 9 AM. He walked back to the locked front door to unlocked it.
Tadaima…
As he expected, there's no one in the house. His parents are still working because the time is 11:50. Thank goodness he could call a taxi to go home. Otherwise, he had to walk for 20 minutes, and his legs will numb, or he can't feel his legs at all. Robbie walks to the washing machine and takes off his b****y uniform and his white tank top, leaving only his underwear unstained. He put them all into the washing machine to clean up all the bloodstains before his parents know. Wearing only his underwear, Robbie walked upstairs to his room and put on his indoor clothes.
Robbie's stomach rumbled loudly, forcing his master to eat something. Robbie obeyed his stomach and down to the kitchen. He opened the small kitchen pantry and took instant ramen as his lunch. After eating his quick yet tasteless lunch, Robbie took his laundry and immediately dried it in on his second-floor balcony. The bright sunlight with its heat is fast enough to dry his clothes in one hour.
Robbie walked back to his room. His mind focused on what happened today because it's related to what the shadow person said last Saturday. He remembered if he said someone will be taken away and he will be involved. But the two things that he doesn't know yet was this thing will happen again, and there's a person who has eyes like him, and he knows about this message too. Who will be anyway?
Robbie clutches his temple and grabs his mullet hair like he has a headache. His eyeballs looked down to the desk where he usually studies. He has nowhere to stare as he focused on the questions from the shadow person until he found two conclusions.
Does that mean I and someone who has the eyes also know about this while everyone doesn't? And was one of my answers correct?
Day 9
The school bell rang with its harmonious tone as the time reaches 12 o'clock. The teacher and some students walked outside the class to enjoy their lunchtime feast. Robbie walked through the hallway slower than usual. He didn't follow Nino, who walks faster than him. His mind was messed up as he remembered the accident exposed on the news last night.
"...At least one student was killed, 37 students and three teachers were injured during the stabbing..."
Robbie still remembered the news anchor reports it on the nighttime news, fulfilled the number of injured victims to 40 people. Robbie walked to the second floor, where the first-year students were roaming around, and the accident happened. He remembered that b****y nightmare where they're massacred right here in the hallway, and one person was killed. Ren. I can't believe he died tragically.
Seeing her friend left behind, Nino backed to Robbie and asked.
"Aww. Why you so sad? Come on..."
Robbie didn't answer her first.
"Hey come on, Robbie. Don't be like that, I'm your friend. Tell me,"
Robbie finally answered her because he was forced to say it, "Ugh... fine. I can't believe that happened. Why he did that?"
"Uhh... what are you talking about?" Nino confused.
"Don't you remember last night? That stabbing accident yesterday. Ren, from class 1-2, got killed by his own friend," Robbie rejoindered.
"Huh? What are you talking about? There's no stabbing incident last night, and who's Ren? There's no student named Ren in this school," Said Nino with a bewildered expression.
"What the heck are you talking about? You remembered everything last night. You sat next to me back in the assembly yesterday! And the school was done because of that b****y hallway that you saw in your eyes!" Robbie felt a little shocked by Nino's reply.
"I don't remember, okay?" Nino clarified.
"Don't pretend you didn't remember, Nino!" Robbie frowned and furrowed his eyebrows a bit.
"Look. If you're feeling angry because of something, don't express your frustration to me! I'm not a trash can full of people's hatred!" Nino scolded him as she offended by Robbie.
Robbie didn't answer him as Nino scolded, "I'm going to have lunch together in the cafeteria. You want to follow me?"
Nino walked away from him as she doesn't need to know the answer. Robbie, who was left behind, continues to follow her. This time, he was confused. Is she doesn't know about this? Or actually, is that true if we have the "eyes" while the others don't?
While Robbie is walking through the hallway, Mullet tailed him from behind. He also eavesdropped on him talked with Nino before. Mullet had thought that Robbie also has that eyes. But he decides to ask more people like him to confirm his suspicions.
"I guess he's the guy then," Mullet muttered, "It's him..."
To be continued…
