Part 4 ~ Mates

Aella POV

I woke up normally, no screaming or sweating actually peaceful. I wished I could have woken up like this every morning, it wasn’t exhausting.

I hopped off the bed with extra energy and my thoughts went to tomorrow my 18th birthday, then they landed on Cassius. My wolf was calm and relaxed around him, and it was surprising as she was never really that relaxed around anyone.

I grabbed my clothes and strode out of the den, after I picked up my bag. I walked to school and didn't dread it nearly as much as usual.

I walked in with no problem and then grabbed my books from my locker, no one would meet my eye and I ignored them. My shoes made a light tapping sound, in the empty hallway, against the tiles. I entered my first lesson, Physics. Great, what fun.

School was better as there was no teasing, jeering or hitting. I ended the day with a smile on my face and happiness coursing through me, a newfound excitement and energy came alive in me.

I plugged my head phones in as I skipped down the path, towards work. A large German Shepard, greeted me at a fence and I cautiously let it sniff my hand. When she licked my hand I placed one hand on its head and gently patted it.

I set off after I patted it and soon I could see the café, nestled between 2 large stores. The smell of cakes and pastries wafted out of the shop and invited any stranger into its warm, welcoming abode.

I entered the café cheerfully, I stopped short when I noticed Cassius sitting at a table, drinking water and eating a hot doughnut.

He looked up as I entered and smiled, I smiled back. I could sense Luna purring a bit, and I shook my head in confusion.

I did the normal routine, serving and talking to the customers. The shift went well, no interruptions, and Cassius stayed my whole shift and got up and left with me as well.

I walked out the front door and he stayed a few paces behind me. The cold, ridged air blew around me and my hair whipped me in the face as we talked.

Our conversation drifted from one topic to another: likes, dislikes, just random topics and after we talked for a while we separated. A grin sat on my face the whole way back to the forest.

The whole time I was thinking of him: his smile, his scent, how he talked, and walked. Damn I sound like a lovesick teenager.

I shook my head as I tried to clear my thoughts, but they fell back on Cassius. I ended up shifting in the forest and I went for a run, as I tried to clear my head.

The fresh air and plants helped me to relax, as I sprinted through the forest. Trees were a blur as I weaved in and out of them, and animals scattered when I flew by them.

The next morning I woke up fresh and realise two things: I am 18, which hopefully means I will find my mate, and secondly it is Saturday. I grabbed my clothes, stripped and ran outside.

I shifted while I carried the my new clothes in my mouth, my paws hit the soft dirt beside the river as the mist surrounded me. I placed the clothes on the bank and dived in, the cool, crisp water cleaned my dirty coat and eased my tense muscles.

I swam around, splashing and playing and then I climbed out. I shifted back into my human form, grabbed my clothes and changed. I decided to walk to the cafe and see what Lola is doing.

Cassius POV

I woke up and got changed, today was my mate's birthday. I got the information from the guys at school.

I walked outside and decided to check her den, her smell seemed a lot stronger, I followed her scent to the cafe.

I watched her talking to the cafe owner, Lola, I walked a bit closer in my wolf form and she stops and sniffs the air. She looked around eagerly, she excuses herself from Lola and walked outside.

She stopped when she saw me, I glanced at her worried that she would reject me, she strode up to me and Cane was howling in joy when she was so close we could touch her. She looks happy but also conflicted, maybe she already likes someone, my heart beats wildly.

"Don't worry I won't reject you, just thinking." She stated softly, as if reading my mind, her head tilted to the side as she studied me deep in thought.

She shifted after she made me turn around, even though it was a struggle not to peek.

I sniffed her as she made her way towards me and she does the same. We ended up walking back to her den and laying down in a clearing, curled up together.

Most Alpha's would just mark their mate right away, and if they lasted a week they would do it as soon as possibly even if it meant upsetting their mate.

I was just fine being next to Aella and Cane was very pleased to be next to Luna, Aella's wolf. I got up and she whimpered, I motioned to the clothes.

She nodded and walked behind a tree, I did the same. She came out in all of her beautiful glory, she looked me up and down while I did the same, she didn't seem to mind as much, even if she did try to hide her face.

I walked over to her and placed my hand on her soft cheek, she leaned into my touch and lifted her gaze of the ground, her cheeks are tinted red and she looks adorable.

I laughed softly, she blushed harder and pushed me away as she played with the hem of her shirt and stamped her foot agitatedly. The alpha side of me wanted to teach her some respect, but I breathed in her scent and calmed down, knowing that was not what a mate was meant to do.

"Do you want to come back to my pack house?" I questioned, as I tilted my head towards her.

"Um is it alright if I don't," She asked with a nervous edge to her timid voice, her eyes were downcast as I gazed at her thoughtfully.

"Yep, just let me run back to the pack house and grab some clothes, food and blankets," I answered firmly and her head lifted up quickly.

" What? No don't do that, it is fine. Please don't do that for me," She pleaded, with shock in her eyes.

"Why wouldn't I? You are my mate, I am meant to love you and you are amazing. Who would ever want to leave you must be crazy." I replied confidently, as she gazed at the ground. My brain tried to come up with a reasonable conclusion to why she was acting like this, but I couldn’t come up with anything. "Did I say something wrong?"

She shook her head and shifted, as she ran away. Cane was yelling at me, for making our mate upset. I decided to get the clothes, food and blankets and then I would look for her, first I would let her cool down.

Aella POV

I ran and I ran as if my life depended on it. I ran from my past, but also my mate.

Luna is annoyed and upset that we ran from our mate, but I didn't care, he did nothing wrong but the past still hurts me.

I ended up going deep into the forest, I found a good cave and sat inside it. I shifted and curled up into a ball, I didn't realise I was crying until I felt the tears landing on my bare skin. I look at the sun and see that it is setting I have probably been out here for half an hour.

I laid down, and thought about everything, about today. I didn’t realise that there was a medium, grey wolf at the entrance of the cave until it was growling slightly looked me over, hunger and lust embedded into his dark eyes.

I tried to cover up, but he jumped and swiftly pinned me down. I went to scratch him, but he just flipped me over and licked my body. I growled threateningly and he hesitated for a second before he continued.

Soon his weight was off me, I glanced up and saw, Cane, Cassius' wolf tackling the other wolf.

Cane bit at the wolf’s neck, but he shook his head and kicked my mate hard in the stomach. Cane didn’t give up and after a small fight the grey wolf submitted and ran off with his tail between his legs.

I sat up my body sticky with saliva, and I shivered. Cane walked up to me and nuzzled me, I laughed then realised that I was still naked.

I tried to move away, but stop when the saliva from the wolf sticks to me like honey.

I stood up and motioned to the spit, Cassius growled lowly. I walked out of the cave, Cane walked in front of me in a protective stance. I hurried into the river and washed off the spit.

I came out of the water and Cassius gave me some clothes. I got changed then we head back to the den. Cassius walked beside me, with his hand on the small of my back, I leant into him as I enjoyed the warmth and comfort he provided.

I wonder what will happen next in my crazy life?
