Twenty-One DAN COMES BACK TO HELEN’S office, and I leave them to discuss what’s been going on while she’s been recuperating. A big part of me wants to stay, to hear what if anything he’s found about Bethany’s murder. But after my confrontation with Dan and little chat with Helen, I think it’s best if I just leave them to do their job, and I do mine. Since I have some time to kill, I wander down to Gladys’ office. The door is cracked, but I don’t hear any sounds of her tapping her keyboard. Instead, I hear quiet giggles. Disturbed, I push the door open. Nate has Gladys out of her chair and sitting on what I assume is his desk. They’re in what can only be described as a passionate embrace. I’m standing there just inside the doorway, watching this scene, feeling a little like a voyeur. T
