“DAMN, THAT’S A LOT of paperwork piled up.” She’s surveying three stacks of folders and papers waiting for her on her desk. “Shouldn’t Dan have taken care of this?” She picks up a folder and flips through the contents. “No, not really,” she says. “It’s all monthly and quarterly reports. Nothing that time sensitive. I’ll work through them.” There’s a knock at the door. “Hi, Chief,” Gladys says as she rolls into Helen’s office, followed closely by Nate. Nate looks strange. Almost like a grown-up. He’s wearing a suit and tie, along with the appropriate shoes and socks that don’t have cartoon characters on them. “Nate,” I say. “Did someone die?” “Ah, why do you ask that?” “I don’t think I’ve ever seen you wearing a suit before. Not even to Mass.” “Doesn’t he look good?” Gladys grins.
