Making a pact

"Now. On with the first step. Hold out your hand and think of the elements. Earth. Air. Fire. Water." Ennis shows me her hand held out and the elements forming as she says them.

"O-okay..." I hesitantly said. I held out my hand and closed my eyes. 'Earth... Earth... Earth...' I think of it over and over again.

Suddenly, I heard a voice, "Emilia... Emilia..."

I opened my eyes. No words can describe the amount of shock that I am in at this point.

"Hi Emilia! I have finally found you!"

In the palm of my stretched out hand is a small, 4 inch high, fairy-like creature. It has a brown pixie-like dress on with long, brown hair. She is surrounded by a light brown glow.

"I am Celest. You called for me and I am here for you now. Fear not." Celest says, bowing in the palm of my hand.

I look at Ennis, then back to Celest, then back to Ennis. She nods at me and smiles. "That be the fastest that's happened before.

"Make the pact, now. Say 'I am Emilia and I accept you as my spirit element. Do you accept me as your master? If not, please leave now so I may continue my search.'..." Ennis explains.

I look at her nod and then look at Celest. Celest stares back smiling and nodding as though she was asking me to say it.

"O-okay..." I hesitantly said again. 'She said I needed this to survive, so I need to do this.' I thought to myself.

I clear my throat and say, "I am Emilia and I accept you, Celest, as my..." I look at Ennis as she mouths the words spirit element. "spirit element. Do you accept me as your master? If not, please leave now so I may continue my search." As the words leave my mouth, I feel myself grinning widely.

"I am Celest. High priestess of the Earth spirit tribe. I accept you, gifted one, as my master. I will follow you everywhere and can only be seen by you and other gifted ones." Celest finishes and flies to my face. She kisses my forehead and smiles. "It is done and I am yours."

A tear falls from my face. "Wow." The only word that can come out of my mouth.

"Alright Emilia, on to the next one. Are you ready?" Ennis said.

"What do you mean? I thought I could only get one." I said, confused.

"You must try for all or lose the one you have. You do not have to get them all, but you do need to try. It is an unwritten law of the gifted ones. You must not be greedy. Do not worry Emilia. No one has ever gotten more than one, let alone all four." She smiles.

"Okay." I'm a bit more ready for this next one.

'I have nothing to worry about because no one has ever gotten more than one. This should be simple.' I think to myself.

I hold out my hand and closed my eyes. 'Wa..' My thought was interrupted.

"Emi! I'm here and ready!" a small peppy voice came out.

I open my eyes and place my other hand over my mouth. I looked over at Ennis in shock. She smiles and shrugs her shoulders. "Whelp... I guess there's a first for everything." She chuckled.

"Emi... I'm Meg. I heard you call and I am here for you." Meg said, smiling and dancing back and forth in my hand. Her hair was shoulder length and blonde. Her dress was a light blue, and she was surrounded by little bubbles that looked to be filled with water.

"Same thing with this one, Emilia. Make the pact." Ennis said proudly.

I nod and look at Meg and say, "I am Emilia and I accept you as my spirit element. Do you accept me as your master? If not, please leave now so I may continue my search."

Meg smiles, "I am Meg, High priestess of the Water tribe. I accept you as my master. I will follow you everywhere and can only be seen by you and other gifted ones." With that, she few towards me while squealing happily. Meg kissed me on my forehead.

At that moment, another single tear fell from my eye. I began smiling. "Two. I have two. This is so awesome. Man... I can't believe this."

"You have two more to call. Go ahead." Ennis said, smiling.

I take a deep breath and hold out my hand. I begin to blow out the air and think of nothing but air.

A few moments pass, and nothing happens. I open my eyes and nothing is there. I sighed and looked at Ennis. She looked back at me with a look of shock. I give her a confused look and she points to my hand. As I turned to look at my hand, a rush of wind blew into my face.

There she was. A beautiful fairy-like creature. Even more beautiful than the last two. Her dress was like an elegant ball gown. Long and airy. It was a light purple color and it looked as though there were thousands of little diamonds on it to make it sparkle in the sun's light. Her body was surrounded by a light blue and purple light. Her curly hair was long and ash blonde. It was decorated with flowers and adorned with a flower crown.

"Hello, Emilia. I am Esen. I am pleased to make your acquaintance. I'm so happy that you have called for me. I am ready to serve you." Esen said with a smile. She then proceeded to bow deeply.

I nodded slightly to signify a sort of bow. I look at Ennis and she nods to me, telling me to continue.

"I am Emilia and I accept you as my spirit element. Do you accept me as your master? If not, please leave now so I may continue my search." I said.

Esen bowed again while saying in a proud voice, "I am Esen, queen of the air tribe. I accept you as my master. I will follow you everywhere and can only be seen by you and those you give permission to. I do not show myself to all." She then flies to me and kisses me on the lips.

Two tears fall this time. I'm shocked. My hand is still out in the air.

I look at Ennis and say, "I don't know if I can do this again. I know that fire is..." I stopped mid-sentence. My hand began to warm up and I heard a bossy little voice say, "Fire is what? Go on say it! Fire is what?"

I look at my hand and there stands a spunky little fire ball of a fairy. She was beautiful like the others. Her fiery red hair was styled up in a tight clean bun. She wore a black crown that was accented with red gems. Her dress was red with black trimming. She was surrounded by an orange and red flame.

I cleared my throat. "Oh I am so very sorry little one. Please forgive me. I was saying fire is next."

"Hmph! That's what I thought." The fire spirit said with her arms crossed. "Since I'm here I guess we should get this over with. I'm Vesta. Now let's get this done quickly. I don't like having to wait."

I nod and say a bit quicker this time, "I am Emilia and I accept you as my spirit element. Do you accept me as your master? If not, please leave now so I may continue my search."

She responds with, "I am Vesta, the great high ruler of all fire tribes. I accept you as my master. I will not show myself to anyone except you and your teacher. Ever. That is my will. That is my word. I will be here in your times of need and protect you." She nods a few times as though she was praising herself for doing a good job. Vesta proceeded to fly towards my face and kiss my lips. Just like with Esen, two tears rolled down my face. With a huge smile, I look at my spirits. I thank them all, then turned to Ennis.

"I'm done? That's all I need to do, right?" I said.

Ennis looked at me and with a worried face said, "Aye, but you must close the pact with a prayer. I worry for you because you have gotten all four, but now you must call upon the elders for their blessing."

"Well, that should be simple, right? I just do a simple prayer and then end it with an amen. That should be good." I said with a smile.

Ennis looked down and shook her head. "Unfortunately not, Emilia. You must perform the closing ritual. I will tell you all you must know but we must complete it within the hour or you will lose your spirit pacts..." She then looks me in the eyes and continues, "and your life."
