Chapter 5: The Alpha's Regret The silver crown hovered above Selena's head. Radiant moonlight poured from it, illuminating the dark road like daylight. Everyone stood frozen. Even the wind seemed to stop. The blessing of the Moon Goddess had revealed itself before all. There was no denying it anymore. Selena Blackwood was the Moon Blessed One. Alpha Damon's face turned pale. Disbelief filled his eyes. "No..." His gaze remained fixed on the glowing crown. "This can't be possible." The warriors behind him exchanged nervous glances. Whispers spread among them. "The Moon Goddess chose her." "The prophecy is real." "Selena is blessed." The same people who had ignored her. The same people who had watched her humiliation in silence. Now they looked at her with awe. With respect. With fear. A bitter smile appeared on Selena's lips. How quickly people changed. Kael stood beside her, his powerful presence steady and protective. The Lycan King's golden eyes never left Damon. "You heard the Goddess." His voice was cold. "She belongs to no man." Damon clenched his fists. His wolf surfaced. Anger rolled off him in waves. "She is my mate." Kael's expression darkened. "And yet you treated her like she was nothing." The words struck harder than a blade. Damon's jaw tightened. For the first time, he had no response. Because it was true. Selena looked away. She didn't want to see his face. Didn't want to remember all the nights she had cried alone. All the times she had waited for him. All the promises he had broken. But Damon wasn't finished. He stepped forward. "Selena." His voice softened. The way it used to years ago. Before everything changed. "Come home." The words stirred painful memories. The garden where they first met. The moonlit walks. The dreams they once shared. For a moment, her heart wavered. Then another memory surfaced. Vanessa standing beside him. His arm around her shoulders. His cold eyes. His rejection. The pain returned immediately. Stronger than ever. Selena lifted her gaze. "Home?" Damon nodded. "Yes." She laughed. The sound shocked everyone. Because it wasn't filled with joy. It was filled with heartbreak. "Home?" Tears shimmered in her eyes. "You stopped making that place my home a long time ago." Silence fell. Damon looked as if she had slapped him. But Selena wasn't done. For years she had remained silent. For years she had endured everything. Not anymore. "You watched me suffer." Her voice trembled. "But you never came." Damon lowered his eyes. "You replaced me." No answer. "You humiliated me before the entire pack." Still no answer. The road became painfully quiet. Every warrior heard her words. Every accusation. Every truth. And Damon had no defense. Because he knew she was right. A look of guilt crossed his face. The first genuine guilt Selena had seen from him. "I thought I was doing the right thing." His voice sounded broken. "Vanessa lost her husband." "So I had to help her." Selena nodded slowly. "And who helped me?" The question shattered him. Because there was no answer. Nobody had helped her. Nobody had stood beside her. Nobody except herself. A tear slipped down Damon's cheek. His warriors looked shocked. They had never seen their Alpha cry before. Not once. Not even in battle. Yet here he stood, heartbroken. Watching the woman he loved slip away. Only now realizing how badly he had failed her. Suddenly— A sharp pain shot through Selena's chest. She gasped. The silver mark burned. Brighter. Hotter. Stronger. Kael immediately caught her before she could fall. "Selena." Concern filled his voice. The moonlight around her intensified. Ancient symbols appeared in the air. Floating around her body. The ground trembled. Everyone stepped back. "What is happening?" Damon shouted. Kael's expression became grim. "Her powers are awakening." The symbols spun faster. Faster. Faster. Then— BOOM! A wave of silver energy exploded outward. The entire mountain road shook violently. Trees bent. Snow scattered. Every wolf dropped to one knee. Every wolf except Kael. And Selena. Her eyes glowed silver. Brilliant. Divine. For a brief moment she wasn't merely a woman. She looked like a goddess. Ancient memories flashed through her mind. A throne. A war. Blood staining silver marble. A king kneeling before her. And a voice. The same voice from before. "The darkness rises once more." Selena's breath caught. "Find the Moon Throne before the Blood King awakens." Blood King? The words echoed through her soul. Then the vision disappeared. The light faded. Selena collapsed. Kael caught her instantly. His arms tightened around her. "Selena!" She slowly opened her eyes. Weak. Confused. But alive. "What did I see?" Kael's face became serious. "The Blood King." Damon frowned. "Who's that?" For the first time, genuine fear appeared in Kael's eyes. A fear so profound it silenced everyone. "The greatest monster in history." A cold chill swept through the mountain pass. "The one who nearly destroyed the world." Nobody spoke. The silence became suffocating. Then Kael looked toward the northern horizon. His expression hardened. "The seals are weakening." The warriors exchanged nervous looks. "What seals?" Damon asked. Kael didn't answer immediately. Instead, he stared at Selena. As if realizing how dangerous the situation truly was. Finally, he spoke. "If the Blood King returns..." His voice was grim. "Millions will die." The moon vanished behind dark clouds. Thunder rumbled in the distance. And far away, deep beneath an ancient ruined kingdom, a pair of crimson eyes slowly opened. A voice filled with hatred echoed through the darkness. "The Moon Blessed One has awakened." Chains began to c***k. One by one. The prison that had held the ancient evil for a thousand years was beginning to fail. And the countdown to war had already begun. To be continued...
