Chapter 2: The Mark of Destiny Selena collapsed onto her knees. The silver mark on her wrist burned like molten fire beneath her skin. Every breath became a struggle as the mysterious voice echoed repeatedly inside her mind. "The forgotten Luna shall rise." The words felt ancient. Powerful. Unavoidable. "Damon..." she gasped. For the first time that night, fear flashed across the Alpha's face. "What happened to you?" Selena laughed bitterly. Now he was concerned? After everything? The silver light pulsed again. A wave of energy exploded from her body, forcing Damon several steps backward. His eyes widened. "What are you?" The question hurt more than he realized. Not Are you okay? Not Are you hurt? What are you? Selena slowly rose to her feet. The moonlight seemed brighter around her. Her wolf stirred restlessly. Something was changing. Something deep inside her had awakened. "I don't know," she whispered. For a brief moment, Damon stared at her as if he were seeing her for the first time. Then footsteps interrupted them. Vanessa appeared at the mansion entrance. "Damon!" Immediately, his attention shifted. Just like always. The little concern he had shown disappeared. Vanessa hurried toward him carrying her son. "The boy had a nightmare." Damon instantly moved to comfort them. Selena watched in silence. Watched him become the protector he had never been for her. Watched him choose them once again. Her chest ached. But strangely... The pain wasn't as overwhelming as before. It was becoming something else. Something colder. Something stronger. Acceptance. Without another word, Selena turned and walked away. Neither Damon nor Vanessa stopped her. Neither noticed the tears she wiped from her face. Neither saw the silver glow that followed her into the darkness. Hours later. Selena sat alone beside Moonlake Forest. The water reflected the full moon above. This place had always been her sanctuary. Whenever life became too difficult, she came here. Tonight was no different. Except tonight, her entire world had shattered. She stared at the glowing mark on her wrist. "What are you?" The symbol resembled a crescent moon surrounded by ancient runes. She had never seen anything like it before. Suddenly, her wolf spoke. "This is not ordinary." Selena frowned. "What do you mean?" "I can feel it. This power comes directly from the Moon Goddess." A chill ran through her body. Directly from the Moon Goddess? That was impossible. Only figures from ancient legends received divine blessings. Yet the mark continued glowing. As if proving her wolf right. Then a cold breeze swept across the lake. The air shifted. Every instinct inside Selena screamed danger. Someone was watching her. Slowly, she stood. "Who's there?" Silence. The forest remained still. Then— A twig snapped. A massive figure emerged from the shadows. Selena's breath caught. The stranger was enormous. Over six feet tall. Broad shoulders. Dark clothing. Long black hair. Silver eyes that seemed to glow in the darkness. Power radiated from him. Wild. Ancient. Terrifying. Every wolf in the area immediately submitted. Including hers. Her wolf trembled. "Run." Selena's heart pounded. "Who are you?" The man remained silent. His gaze fixed on the mark glowing on her wrist. The moment he saw it, his expression changed. Shock. Disbelief. Then something much darker. Possessiveness. "You have it." His voice was deep and dangerous. Selena instinctively stepped backward. "Have what?" The stranger moved closer. "The Moon Goddess's mark." Fear flooded her chest. How did he know? Who was this man? Suddenly, dozens of warriors appeared from the forest. Each one radiated immense strength. They surrounded the mysterious man respectfully. Not as equals. As subjects. Selena's blood ran cold. Only one person in the werewolf world commanded such loyalty. One person every Alpha feared. One ruler whose name was spoken only in whispers. The realization struck her like lightning. "No..." The stranger smiled. It wasn't comforting. It was the smile of a predator who had finally found his prey. "My name is Kael." Selena's knees nearly gave out. Kael. The Lycan King. The most powerful being in existence. The king who ruled the Northern Kingdom. The monster mothers used to frighten their children. And he was standing right in front of her. Looking at her as if she belonged to him. Kael stepped closer. His silver eyes never leaving hers. "For a thousand years," he said quietly, "I have searched for you." Selena's heart stopped. "What?" The king raised his hand. Without touching her, the mark on her wrist blazed brighter than ever. The forest shook. The lake erupted with silver light. And above them, the moon itself seemed to glow. Kael stared at her with undisguised intensity. "You are not merely a Luna, Selena Blackwood." His voice carried through the night like prophecy. "You are the Moon Blessed One." Before Selena could respond, a terrifying howl echoed across the forest. The sound was filled with hatred. Murder. And war. Kael's expression instantly darkened. One of his warriors rushed forward. "My King!" "What is it?" The warrior dropped to one knee. "The Blood Fang Clan has discovered her." Kael cursed. For the first time, genuine concern flashed across his face. "They're already here?" Selena looked between them nervously. "What is happening?" No one answered. Another howl echoed. Closer this time. Much closer. The ground trembled. Trees shook violently. Something powerful was approaching. Something that wanted her. Kael stepped in front of Selena protectively. His wolf emerged in his eyes. Golden. Savage. Deadly. "Stay behind me." Selena's pulse raced. "What are they?" The Lycan King looked toward the darkness. His expression turned grim. "The creatures that have hunted your bloodline for centuries." A monstrous roar exploded from the forest. Red eyes appeared among the trees. One pair. Then ten. Then hundreds. And Selena realized tonight's nightmare was only beginning. To be continued...
