Epilogue With a military history dating back to the days of early colonisation, Torrens Parade Ground and its impressive old barracks building was located on the very edge of the Adelaide CBD, and within a short walking distance from the National War Memorial. With a large central drill hall bordered by offices, the barracks building was once used as a staging place for troops departing for war, and more recently as headquarters for the Citizens Military Force and Army Reserve. It also housed the South Australian branches of ex-service organisations such as the Returned and Services League, the Air Force Association, and the Vietnam Veterans’ Association.
