Chapter Fifteen
The evening was filled with the hushed sounds of quiet, intimate conversations and soft mood music as the many diners enjoyed the relaxed, inviting atmosphere. The subdued lighting cast a warm, unobtrusive ambience over the dining room and the adjacent cocktail bar. It was made even more pleasant with delicious food, compliments of François’ excellent menu, and good wine, compliments of Sally’s small but selective wine list.
Later, when only a handful of diners remained, lingering over coffee or perhaps an after-dinner drink, Chap sat at the bar and sipped brandy, waiting for Sally to complete her closing duties. Now, Engelbert Humperdinck singing After the Loving wafted softly through the restaurant sound system.
