Chapter 1

208 Words
1 The first thought that came to Raerdel’s mind currently was that a person can really underestimate the value of speed until they are running for their lives. Raerdel Sullivan had never been one to jog or run for the fun of it, however, she was currently being chased by what had at first appeared as a group of very handsome young men. However, as they had approached her as she was gardening and minding her business, she discovered there was something quite predatory in the way they had surrounded her. Asking them simply if she could help them had netted no response, and instead the boys had moved to grab her and pick her up. Kicking reflexively at the first man in what she had always referred to as “the panic button” had given her the space she needed to run away. Which led her to her current situation of running through the forty-acre woodland behind her home with nothing but her combat boots on her feet and a trowel in her hand, a pair of jeans, and a T-shirt. The eerie sounds the group chasing her made as they barreled close behind her in the wood made running from these guys that much more necessary to her.
