While driving home from running an errand the other day, and completely lost in my own thoughts, I had my sss Music playlist going. I needed to just reset in a way. So I’m sitting there thinking and the song Fear is a Lair by Zack Williams shuffles through. If you ever get the chance to listen to that song (see youtube link wherever it is on this coffee table talk) please do. I could go into the whole song but I’m just going to touch on the chorus because that was what was speaking to me. I felt led to do a however long more likely short coffee table talk about it. It’s been A WHILE sorry about that people I’ve been MAJOR busy but I had to stop and work on this though.
Fear, he is a liar
He will take your breath
Stop you in your steps
Fear, he is a liar
He will rob your rest
Steal your happiness
Cast your fear in the fire
'Cause fear, he is a liar
(Songwriters: Jonathan Lindley Smith / Zachary Stephen Williams)
Those words… 2020 has been full of fear especially of COVID-19… as my Aunt put it it’s like saying the word Cancer… Why have we been so fearful of this “unknown” we as christians should fear nothing because God has not nor will he ever give us the spirit of fear (2 Timothy 1:7) Instead he gives us power in the name of his son Jesus. He gives Love his everlasting abiding love. And he gives us a SOUND MIND. Sometimes we need to claim that.
Why do we fear? Mostly because we believe the lies. SAY WHAT ANNETTA? Yes we buy into the lies that fear feeds us because fear is of the devil our adversary. And he is fearful we christians will rise up if we ever truly come to know the power we have over him. See if your afraid of death and the grave as a born again believer then you need to reevaluate your belief in God and the work Jesus did on the cross because Jesus CONQUERED death on the cross when he said it was finished he meant just that it was finished Death no longer had a sting it could no longer separate us from His father or him. Then Jesus went and did one more thing he CONQUERED the grave he came back to life and was among us till he ascended back to his father. Death for a born again believer is nothing more than having run a race and won. Death is us going to be with our heavenly father and that we should not fear. I’m not saying we should take our lives to be with our God that is not the way… No dear ones no… What I am saying is that we are called to live our lives to reflect Jesus' love and compassion to others and to win as many to the cross and to him as we can.
One of my favorite scriptures is Joshua 1:9 before this verse God is telling Joshua it’s time to cross the Jordan into the promised land. He lays out his plans for Israel and his people and several times he tells Joshua to be brave and courageous. He also tells Joshua why he should be those things and why he shouldn't fear… Why was that? BECAUSE he the LORD was with Joshua WHEREVER he went.
(1Now it came to pass after the death of Moses the servant of Jehovah, that Jehovah spake unto Joshua the son of Nun, Moses’ minister, saying, 2Moses my servant is dead; now therefore arise, go over this Jordan, thou, and all this people, unto the land which I do give to them, even to the children of Israel. 3Every place that the sole of your foot shall tread upon, to you have I given it, as I spake unto Moses. 4From the wilderness, and this Lebanon, even unto the great river, the river Euphrates, all the land of the Hittites, and unto the great sea toward the going down of the sun, shall be your border. 5There shall not any man be able to stand before thee all the days of thy life: as I was with Moses, so I will be with thee; I will not fail thee, nor forsake thee. 6Be strong and of good courage; for thou shalt cause these people to inherit the land which I sware unto their fathers to give them. 7Only be strong and very courageous, to observe to do according to all the law, which Moses my servant commanded thee: turn not from it to the right hand or to the left, that thou mayest have good success whithersoever thou goest. 8This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth, but thou shalt meditate thereon day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success. 9Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of good courage; be not affrighted, neither be thou dismayed: for Jehovah thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.)
God is still that same from old to new testament his covenant changed to graft in the non-Jewish believer the gentile. But his word is still the same, he still promises to be with us wherever we go because he is JEHOVAH JIREH our provider!
