FROM THE balcony of our room, I could see lines of hundreds of people gathered just outside the forest, where the end of the land of the palace lay, separating them from the direct territory of the Alpha King. They looked determined enough. Many of them crouched or sat, some climbed the trees, and some were walking around the line. They were here. Knox’s men and Rhys’ enemies.
They were waiting to attack the palace and the surrounding houses.
“Come inside,” Rhys ordered. I looked back to see him, but the wind blew the curtains so I could only get glimpses of him from outside. “Do not make me say it twice, Golden. Come inside at once. It’s dangerous out there. You’re an open target.”
