Chapter 3 The Will

753 Words
Carla couldn't fall asleep. Everything was too sudden. This evening, she was still at the auction, being chosen. Now, she was lying on a large, soft bed, covered with a clean and comfortable quilt, and had a family. The crime boss claimed to be her father, and she now had five strange brothers. Leonel's health seemed poor. He was often short of breath after speaking just a few words. And the three brothers she had met seemed not simple. Carla tossed and turned, unable to fall asleep. The moonlight outside the window was very bright, like a huge mirror, reflecting her anxious thoughts. Unable to sleep, Carla simply got up to drink some water. The villa was vast, so she navigated her way downstairs in the moonlight, not bothering to turn on the lights. She had just brought the water to her lips when a gruff male voice suddenly broke the silence. "What are you doing?" In the pitch-black villa, the sudden voice frightened Carla's face pale. She turned her head and saw a tall, muscular man with a bowl of noodles, like a black bear eating. "I, I'm drinking water." Oliver, the third eldest son, threw down the bowl, casually wiped his mouth, walked out of the kitchen, and circled Carla. "I haven't seen you before, are you new here?" He assumed Carla was a new servant and barked, "Get me something to eat. The ramen is terrible." 'It was all Andrew's fault for making me come back to see some sister. What was so good about a girl that it delayed me from teaching people a lesson?' he complained in his heart. Carla had been cooking since she was a child. In this strange place, she didn't explain and obediently went into the kitchen. Oliver devoured the simple bowl of pasta. "Good cooking. By the way, what's your name?" "Carla." Oliver's slow brain finally realized that this thin and weak woman in front of him was the younger sister that Andrew had asked him to come back to see. "Holy crap, why didn't you say so!" He suddenly raised his voice, startling Carla. Her shoulders sagged, and she looked timid. "You... you didn't ask." Oliver scoffed impatiently, "Forget it. Just don't mention this to anyone, got it?" Carla nodded obediently. After a day of fighting, Oliver's body reeked of blood, and Carla didn't dare to approach him. Fortunately, he didn't say much more, he just carried his jacket with one hand and went upstairs. Carla didn't relax until he disappeared. ***** The next morning, Carla went downstairs after washing up. Six men were sitting at the dining table. Leonel was at the head of the table, Andrew and Kendrick were on his left, Mathias was on his right. The man from last night and a man Carla had never met before were also there. When Leonel saw her, he immediately beckoned her over with a smile, "Carla is awake, come and have breakfast." A table of food was untouched. Everyone was waiting for her. Her cheeks flushed with embarrassment. She thought, 'Have I overslept and kept everyone waiting?' She took a seat beside Leonel, who pointed to the two on his right and said, "This is your third eldest brother, Oliver, and this is your fourth eldest brother, Tyrone." Oliver's eyes flickered when he saw Carla, Guilt was clear on Oliver's face. "Hi, nice to meet you." The other young man was dressed in a dark blue suit, his back straight, a pair of gold-rimmed glasses perched on the bridge of his high nose. He looked abstinent and gentlemanly. "Hello, Carla, I'm your Tyrone, nice to meet you." Although Tyrone was gentlemanly and polite, his eyes were cold when he looked at Carla. Carla just nodded slightly and greeted the two of them. She thought that Leonel had called them back just to introduce her, but she didn't expect him to suddenly announce a shocking piece of news. "Carla is my biological daughter, and only her future husband can inherit my position. I've already made my will." Everyone present had their thoughts. Carla hadn't yet recovered from the news when Leonel dropped another bombshell. "Whoever among you wants to take my place, you'll have to fight for it. We'll see which one of you Carla will choose." Carla looked up in astonishment and stammered, "Why..." She was thinking, 'Why make a will all of a sudden? And aren't these five my brothers? Why do I have to choose from my brothers?'
