Red lights blinked every whare at the base. It was hard to find where the intruders were. Logically thinking I had gone to the first floor since it was the easiest way in but there was no trace of breaking in or stuff like that. The first floor was very quiet so it was probably safe to assume there were no intruders there. What a disappointment.
I then hopped floors up until I came to the sixth floor that was mostly outdoor: gardens, pool, tracks, little forest. There I saw a helicopter in a distance. There was also a lot of signs of people leaving panicking. So they had used a helicopter to break in. I was very annoyed not to be able to see it. It must have looked so cool.
It was quiet also here now. So where would the intruders go? I looked up. Their aim was probably the control room or the leader's rooms. I got a little bit worried under my excitement. I wished they weren't after Matteo or his family. It would be good if they just wanted to steal some technology or information. And even though I wanted to see action I didn't want anyone to get hurt. It would end the fun.
I hurried my way up. On every floor, I listened carefully. I needed to avoid our own units since they would probably report about me to Nicolas and he would definitely shut me down so that I wouldn't interrupt. But I needed to find a corner where I could spy on the intruders and see what they were up to. If I just could found them.
The red lights were still on so I had some hope the situation was still going on but the closer we got to the upper floors I got nervous. If the intruders went to the area I wasn't allowed I wouldn't be able to see any action. I was wondering about hopping to the upper floor I could and then coming down when I heard a woman screaming.
Finally, I had found them. I hurried to the way I had heard the scream and looked behind the corner. There I saw five guys dressed in black and heavily armed. And with them on her kneels was Rebecca my former classmate, a very sweet girl. What the hell she was doing here.
"Where's the control room?" one of the intruders asked and shoved crying Rebecca, "Take us there."
Rebecca tried to answer but couldn't help but cry. I felt sorry for her. I didn't want anything bad to happen to her. I wondered what should I do. I knew that our unit was coupe floors down. Maybe I should go and get them. Maybe they would get here faster. That was probably the best plan to do and I was about to do so but then the situation heated.
"Show us the route now or I will shoot you," the man said and pointed to Rebecca with a g*n.
I just acted. I stopped thinking and just acted. I created a couple of automatic rifles for both of my arms and armour our units wear and stepped behind the corner.
"Let her go!" I yelled.
The one-man kept his g*n on Rebecca but the others pointed their guns at me. Well, I wasn't in any danger but I wondered if I had made the situation worse for Rebecca. She stared at me scared. I wasn't sure whether she was cursing me or thanking me with her eyes. Well, I had started this I should probably keep going until help got here.
"I said, let her go" I yelled again.
For a moment that felt like forever nothing happened. Until one of the guys lifted his arm and let it fall. It was probably a mark of putting their guns down since they stopped pointing at me. I felt like I was winning until the man probably in charge said:
"You know that you have safety on, right?
I looked at the weapons in my arms. I didn't know the first thing about guns. I had just seen guns like this in a movie once. I had a good memory so they looked probably quite real. The safety was probably somewhere near the trigger. It was probably time to change my plan.
"Seems like I'm busted," I said, "Well these weren't real anyway."
I dropped the guns on the floor and they shattered. It was a nice effect I had learned to do recently. I was quite excited to be able to use it even though the situation wasn't the best. The men seemed a little bit confused but not the leader he seemed to be impressed.
"We are looking for the control rooms," the leader said, "Would you take us there?"
He seemed quite a polite person to be an intruder. Maybe that's why he was the leader. The situation was very annoying. I didn't have much time to think, but my goal was still to save Rebecca.
"Of course," I answered, "But only if you let me friend go. It is not necessary to keep her if you have me to guide you."
Rebecca stopped crying and looked at me. I wished she wouldn't say anything stupid that the guys would know I wasn't a human. Or I was but not physically. The leader seemed to consider my offer.
"I'm a friend of the leader's son," I added. "I have often been on the upper floors where the control rooms are. So I'm probably the best guide you can find."
I wish they would take the bait. Our unit was probably quite near. If I was able to get Rebecca out of here it would be easy for our unit to handle the situation so that no one would get hurt. If I had had a heart it would probably have raced pretty fast. The seconds felt like hours. Everyone was waiting for the leader to decide.
"As you wish," he said eventually and nodded to his friend.
The man lifted his g*n and then hit Rebecca with it. I felt panic inside me. What the hell were they doing.
"Hey" was all I was able to yell at.
"She is fine." the leader said. "Just unconsciousness. We don't want her to run and rat us out."
If I had been a human. I would have run to Rebecca and checked if she was fine. There was a small pool of blood next to her head. But she seemed to breathe. I didn't have a choice. I needed to get these people away from her so that she would get some help as soon as possible. I turned to look at the leader and waved.
"Follow me," I said and turned around.
I heard their footsteps behind me. What I was going to do? Should I take them to the control rooms? Should I just disappear from them? I didn't have any idea what I was supposed to do. I wished Matteo was here. He would have known the right way to act. But I was on my own and needed to figure this out by myself.
