Chapter Six: The Things We Don’t Say

221 Words
Ivy Back at the Tower, the silence between us was louder than words. Lucian opened his office door without looking at me. I followed, heart tight. “You’re not scared enough,” he said. “You don’t know me,” I replied. He leaned against his desk, arms crossed, eyes dark. “Not yet.” A long pause settled between us—thick and heavy with the things neither of us dared to say. “People lie when they feel safe,” he said. “You haven’t lied to me all day.” Should I be flattered?” “No. That was a warning.” His gaze didn’t waver, and something in me bristled—because he wasn’t wrong. I hadn’t lied. But only because I hadn’t felt safe enough to. “You think I don’t know what I’ve stepped into?” I asked. He stepped closer. Close enough to unsettle me. > “I think you’re dangerous. You just haven’t realized what kind yet.” My breath caught. “What do you want from me, Lucian?” “I haven’t decided yet. But when I do… you’ll know.” I left his office with shaky legs and a racing pulse. Because I was starting to realize: He didn’t just see me. He studied me. And that was far more dangerous.
