Chapter 4

Wyatt POV The sooner we figure out who attacked Gold Moon, the faster Wes could get his stuffy ass back to Blue Lake so that Dex and I could get back to hopefully finding our Luna. We drove up to Gold Moon and I marveled at how traditionally designed the pack houses are. The homes were smaller cottages made of natural wood with a rustic look. It was truly beautiful, which was the opposite to the modern buildings in our pack. We pulled up to the pack house which looked like an oversized family cabin. Wes and I were in a car with Dex driving. There were remnants of an attack all around. Pack members wore somber expressions and the atmosphere was tense. Claw marks smeared the pavement, sides of the pack house and trees leading into the forested area. They definitely put up a fight. Gold Moon's pack only had a few hundred members but they were resilient and had some of the best trackers around. They had strong warriors, no doubt from their rigorous training schedules. Alpha Steven and his Beta Grayson approached the cars as they came to a halt with grim expressions. I wonder how bad the damage was and who would want to attack Gold Moon. "Alpha Wyatt, Alpha Wesley, thank you for coming." He said, shaking both our hands and nodding to Dex. “I think we can drop the formalities Steven, Grayson. We have been allies for quite a while now.” Wes interjected. Steven smiled and Grayson nodded. "I really wish the visit was under better circumstances. Shall we discuss matters in my office?" "No thanks necessary, Steven. We are always willing to help." I said cool, earning a discreet death glare from Wes as we made our way to Steven’s office. Asshole! Always happy to help huh? Maybe I should tell him you sulked the whole flight here. Wes sneered in my head. Easy Wes. Mind your temper. Don't want to taint that perfect composure facade now do you?" I mocked, knowing Wes was keen on upholding appearances. 'It's important to maintain a unified front Wyatt,' he always says. But I say, who gives a s**t what people think? Let them talk. Words are meant to be spoken. Oh well, that's just another thing on the list of things we don't agree on. Entering Steven’s office, “What can you tell us about the attack?” Wes jumped right to it. “Any idea why someone would attack your pack?” "Wesley, they were rogues. They breached from the Eastern borders but…they were working with blood suckers." He grimaced as he explained. “We got word from Alpha Charles of Moon Stone pack that they were attacked by rogues and vamps also. But that was after they had already breached our borders,” Grayson added. "That makes no sense. Those two never work together. Did you lose any pack members in the attack?" I recalled the sombre faces as we walked in. "We lost 3 of our warriors and we have 6 in the infirmary." Steven responded, rubbing the side of his head. "We're sorry for th-" Wes and I started in unison, rolling our eyes, "the loss of your pack members." I finished and he thanked us. “Let’s meet up with Grayson and our warriors and see what they have found.” We head out of his office and out of the pack house to meet up with the warriors and some of the trackers. It is likely that Moon Stone and Gold Moon were attacked by the same group. Someone is orchestrating this and they seem to be moving South. I link Wes discreetly, not looking away from the warriors explaining their findings. I think you may be right brother. We need to monitor this and warn the others. They already got to 2 packs. We need to sharpen our warriors and alert them as well if this continues. Dex and the warriors walk up to us. He was obviously on edge about something. I will talk to him about it later. Alphas, the trackers picked up a strange scent and went to check it out. Dex growled out to Wes and I. He was in full warrior mode. Something is not right. We were by the borders and there was a scent and then it vanished. Scents don’t just vanish. The warriors blurted out a similar explanation to what Dex just linked us. He made them none the wiser, just stood there listening and we nodded seemingly unaware. “The trackers are fanning the borders and the warriors have been doubled for patrol Alpha.” Grayson explained to Steven. “Could you use an extra pair of eyes, Grayson? My wolf, Knox, could use the run.” I injected, undoubtedly earning disapproving looks from Wes. He was all about strategizing and I preferred to jump in and lead from the ground. Grayson and I headed towards the tree line with Dex following closely behind. He was loyal to a fault. Wes stayed behind to work on notifying the neighbouring Alphas as well as our pack warriors, just in case there were multiple teams of rogues and vamps working together. Grayson shifted into his chocolate brown wolf Enzo, Dex into his charcoal grey wolf Shadow and Knox took over, realigning bones and spurting midnight black fur over my skin. Enzo barked at us to get our focus, then took off towards the border. Knox could easily outrun them both but opted to let Enzo lead since we were in his territory. We made it to the border in just under twenty minutes and spotted the trackers trying to locate the direction of the scent. Knox was on edge, ears peaked, eyes focused on something unknown behind the area the trackers were gathered. What’s wrong man. What do you see? He doesn’t answer me, taking slow, deliberate steps towards his focal point. What is it buddy? Quiet Wyatt! He snapped. Don’t you sense it? There’s someone out there. The trackers were right. There is something off about this scent, but it’s making me feel strange. I can feel it. I agreed, not wanting to admit that we felt like little school girls drawn to their crush. He inched closer to the trees but I saw no one. We were getting a few strange looks from the others but Knox could care less. He trotted beyond the trees, into a nearby clearing and stopped abruptly. He huffed and looked from side to side searching. What is with this crazy wolf today? I watch through his eyes as he turned and made his way back from where we came. His senses peaked again and he became rooted by this gigantic tree with broad cascading branches filled with leaves. He circled the tree, sniffing and growling with frustration. Knox, what’s the matter? I can feel you from the pack house. Is Wyatt alright? Wes questioned with concern. Alpha, what’s going on? Shadow trotted over with Enzo a few steps behind. I picked up a strange scent, followed it to right here. Knox began circling the tree from one end to the other. There is someone here. The trackers started circling an area closer to where the three of us stood. After a few hours of scouring the area with no further leads, the trackers and warriors retreated to the pack house. Knox and Shadow shifted and gave back control to Dex and I. Dex found us some shorts hanging in bags scattered throughout the woods and we quickly put them on. I sat and leaned back against the tree because he refused to let me leave this spot. He complained that we needed to stay close by, and Dex refused to leave me. We sat for another half hour before I smelled Knight approaching. He questioned why I didn't return with the others and explained how Knox's emotions were pushing through the twin bond. Before I could explain, a branch cracked above us. Dex and I whipped our necks upwards to where the sound came from. Knight growled threateningly. There was a change in the air when I saw a figure shift from one leg to the other before vanishing and reappearing at the break of the tree line by a clearing. What the f**k?! A Witch. My beautiful little Witch. Strange. Knox and I sense a wolf but I cannot smell one. Knox is losing it in my mind, trying to reach out to the wolf he sensed, but got nothing. Time seemed to slow as the events unfolded. Knight walked up beside me, still in wolf form. He tried to link me but I could not focus on him. She stood at the tree line, assessing what was happening. Dex shifted back into Shadow and lunged at her. Knight growled and rammed into him. Shadow tumbled and slammed against the tree. Knight was at his throat in a second. Glancing back at our Mate, I saw the terrified look on her face before she disappeared into a white-grey mist. “WAIT!” Seeing our mate vanish into the mist, Knight shifted into Wes, forcing Shadow to shift as well. Dex was pinned against the tree with Wes ready to rip him to pieces. “Look what you did!”He bellowed at Dex, making him flinch. “Alpha, she is obviously a witch. She is probably the reason we keep losing the scent!” I ran over at wolf speed and grabbed Wes. I understood his frustration but Dex had no idea what had just happened or who she was. A fact that Wes would have processed if he was not so riled up. I have to admit, getting an emotional response from Wes was refreshing. But to see him like this over our mate was priceless. I will never let him live this down…haha. Watch your tongue Dex, she is our MATE. I linked them both, as I pushed Dex towards Grayson and pulled Wes away. Grayson looked at us with confusion. No doubt wondering what the fuss was over who got to the mystery lady first. He scowled at Wes, who was beyond heated over the ordeal. I pulled out of earshot before openly addressing the issue. "Brother, our mate is a witch?! She left. Why was she here? Gold Moon doesn't affiliate with witches, so she is definitely not a pack member. What is she into?!!" He rushed out over our link as we walked away from the treeline. "Wes, as much as I love seeing you like this, all flustered and impulsive," he snarled at me and I chuckled, "I need my calm, collected, pain in the ass brother right now. You need to calm Knight down so we can figure this out and find our mate." Wesley POV Knox was antsy all morning, sending waves of emotions through the twin bond, which was unlike him. He, just like my brother, always took a laid back approach in my eyes. That just added further frustration to me and my wolf Knight. He, on the other hand, was a two-way station; the pack and his Luna. Needless to say, he did not approve of our back-up plan for finding a Luna. I linked Knox to see what was going on but he did not respond. The emotions kept flowing, but he was not in danger or any pain, so I decided to get some work done with Steven. We called all the neighbouring packs to let them know of the two attacks so they could be alert. I reached out to Xav, my Beta, who was watching over the pack while Wyatt and I were away. He will brief the warriors and ensure patrol is doubled by our borders. Time got away from us and a few hours passed. Steven was linked that the trackers were headed back with no updates. We wrapped up our strategy plan of the best way to defend should they attack again. It was unlikely for them to attack the same place again so soon. We head out to the dining hall to get a briefing on any findings while the warriors and trackers ate. Scanning the room, Wyatt and his lap dog were not back. Neither was Grayson. I felt Knox stir again. What the hell was going on with them? I head out to the woods, shifted and followed their scent, which led me to Wyatt sitting at the base of a huge tree looking irritated. Brother, you seem stuck to the tree. Is this our mate? I jeered sarcastically. Before he could respond, the branches above us snapped. Was it what I said? Wyatt and Dex glanced up before someone emerged from a mist at the edge of the clearing. The air around me changed. It felt like I was sprayed with fairy dust, which made everything feel warm and cozy. A gorgeously tall, curvy, raven-haired woman staring straight at us, appeared at the edge of the clearing. She was our mate? She appeared out of the mist? She was a witch. Our witch. s**t! Our mate is a witch?! Knight could sense a wolf but it was faint, almost hidden. Who was she? My thoughts were so jumbled that I barely caught Shadow lunging at her, perceiving her a threat. Knight lost it and rammed into him, causing us both to tumble. He ended up slamming into another tree. As we tumbled, I heard Wyatt yell, then she vanished into the same mist she came out of. “Look what you did!” He yelled at Dex, after taking the reign from Knight who wanted to kill him for attacking our mate. Shadow shifted back almost immediately after I did, to show respect. “Alpha, she is obviously a witch. She is probably the reason we keep losing the scent!” Watch your tongue Dex, she is our MATE! Wyatt growled, linking both of us. He pushed Dex toward Grayson, who was watching the events go by, then grabbed me, pulling me further away. After a few minutes, I started rambling about all the jumbled thoughts in my head. I hate having jumbled thoughts. Wyatt was talking but my mind was racing. I managed to catch the end of what he said, "I need my calm, collected, pain in the ass brother right now. You need to calm Knight down so we can figure this out and find our mate." I rolled my eyes but agreed. We needed to find our mate. Sia POV What the hell Sia?! You just left our MATES! Jinx screamed in my head. She was not happy about my leaving. Two mates Jinx?! Why the hell do we have two mates?! I was in turmoil with myself. They smelled so frigging good but they were Alphas and I was a witch as far as they knew. Alphas were known to be territorial, controlling and narrow-minded. They could probably sense Jinx but would not be able to smell her while the potion was still in effect. Why was I freaking out? This was a part of the reason I left, but now I feel like I'm not ready. Was I really ready for two mates? Two Alpha mates at that? Shit. Shit. Sia! Our mates are yummy and strong. Their wolves are blessed, I could tell. We have to go back! You promised! She whined, wagging her tail, urging me to go back. I know Jinx, but you know how Alphas can be. We need to be sure before we give in to the bond. You know that. Are you forgetting what daddy-dearest did to mom? I asked sarcastically. Don't make this about him. How are we going to be sure if we don't talk to them? You could show them, me. Once they see how adorable and fluffy I am, they will just…hmmm. You know damn well, you do not want to talk. You just want to get straight to the mating. How can you be ready for that when we have not even officially met them yet? I will not deny that. She huffed, turning her snout upwards. And I'm not too proud to admit it either. I want my mate…or should I say…Mates! I have two of them! She squealed, giving me a headache from her hysterics. Why did the Moon Goddess give me such a horny wolf? I rolled my eyes as she wagged her tail, checking herself out, licking her paws, titivating for her mates. You are 22 years old and never mated. Helping yourself out with double digits does not count. I blushed, unable to believe she just threw that in my face. You had options, but I know, you wanted to wait for our mate. Well, now here they are. I'm done waiting. Let's go already! I just need a minute to process Jinx. I want our mates too but we can't just go back to that pack when they just had an attack. They can't fully sense our wolf. What if that causes problems for us, for our mates? I reasoned, hoping she would understand my caution. Ughh! This is frustrating. Fine! What do you suppose we do? I have an idea. Ok. And then, our mates. I appeased her. Who was I kidding? I wanted my mates just as bad. Even though I was the daughter of an Alpha, I just never considered being mated to another Alpha, let alone twins. Oh well, get ready mates. I inhaled deeply, before whisking off into a white-grey mist.
