Wesley POV
“And where do you think you are going, Brother?”
“You know where, Wes.”
“We have a pack to run, Wyatt.” Annoyance was evident in my tone.
“I’m aware. But we also have a mate to find.” He deflected.
“This s**t again, Wyatt. I thought we were past this. What if we never find her? Do you plan on searching for her forever?”
“You baffle me, Brother. But I’m not having this fight with you again. Our pack is fine, one of the strongest and the most well-guarded. We have the best warriors and there are no known threats right now. Are you truly not coming with me, Wes?” My dear brother pleaded, and I rolled my eyes at his ridiculous plea.
“Do you expect my answer to change? Go ahead on your conquest brother and I will be here taking care of our pack and all the responsibilities that you should be helping me with.” He grabbed his duffle, turned to walk out and I stopped him, “And when you don’t find her, you bring your ass back and we will take a chosen mate and be done with this foolishness.
“I will find our mate, brother” he spit at me, “And when I bring her back, I don’t want to hear s**t else from you. We are not choosing a mate!”
He stormed out of the pack house with Dexter, his warrior sidekick. The loyalty he had to my brother was uncanny. Oh well, now that he was off searching for ‘our mate’, which I knew he would not find, I headed back to our office.
What was his obsession with this mate conquest still? You would think that after seven years of searching for her, attending pack events, hosting mating events, traveling the damn country with no luck, he would just let go of the false hope they feed us as kids.
Finding your true mate has become scarce over the last few decades, but our parents were true mates, so we grew up believing that we would find ours after we shifted at age 18. Yeah right. Fast forward seven years and we are 25 years old and still no mate.
I’m not a complete ass. Of course, I want our mate, but I am not about to chase my tail to find her. We searched for four years before I woke up and realized that we were Alphas and as much as our pack needed a Luna, they needed their Alphas. And I could control only one of those two needs, so what I wanted was just not as important. Wyatt, on the other hand, has not had that realization, so here I am left to run this massive pack by myself because he was away on yet another search for our mate.
This venture of his would be his last. There were a few Alphas around that had only daughters, who were seeking mates for them, to secure the future of their packs. That gives us a lot to choose from. Since I was the logical thinking twin, I picked up the phone and made some arrangements. Wyatt would thank me eventually.
I picked up the phone and dialed the first Alpha on my list. He was known among the Alphas in this country for seeking alliances and partnerships. His bargaining chips were his girls.
“Alpha Wesley, to what do I owe the pleasure of having you calling me?” I was not a fan of this Alpha but he was known to have beautiful daughters, all un-mated.
“It would appear that we have a common issue. Maybe we can help each other.” I replied, getting straight to the point.
“You have my attention, Alpha Wesley.” The smirk that was heard in his voice made my skin crawl.
Wyatt POV
"Dex, let's go." I commanded, my voice laced with annoyance.
"Yes Alpha." Obliged Dex, our Lead warrior and my best friend.
"Really Dex? Drop the formalities. How many of these damn trips have we been on already?" I warned, jokingly.
"Sorry man. It's hard to switch back; you know Alpha Wes prefers formality."
"I know. He's just stuffy like that. Hopefully, when I find our mate, she can do us all a favor and loosen him up."
Dex understood the importance of my mission probably more than others because he, too, yearned for his mate. He was a man of very little words but he was loyal to a fault and one of the few warriors that could keep up in a ring with me or Wes.
We hopped into our Rovers and sped off. The Blue Lake Pack was feared and respected in North America as many knew that twins, like other multiples, were especially blessed by the Moon Goddess with gifts. Wes and I, as identical twins, were each blessed with a gift that was not widely known. Now, all that was missing was our beautiful Luna.
I have been annoyed with Wes since he opted out of the search. He just gave up! I would never give up searching for my Luna, I just couldn't do that. I'm a bit of a romantic, I know. But she was made for us, as we grew up knowing that we would share a mate, and no one would measure up to that.
"Right Wyatt?" I was so engrossed in my thoughts, I didn't realize Dex was talking to me.
"Say that again Dex." He grinned knowingly.
"Alpha Wes has you flustered? Or are you day-dreaming about our Luna again?" He chuckled.
"Wes can f**k off. My mate…our mate… I can't wait to find her Dex. This time feels different, you know?"
"I hope so. I can't wait to meet our Luna. That will be interesting with Alpha Wes." He said, getting out of the driver's seat, grabbing our bags from the trunk. I didn’t even realize that we had already arrived at the airstrip.
We were headed to Seattle for an upcoming Mating Ceremony; another fellow Alpha found his Luna last month and they were having their ceremony this weekend. When will I find our mate? I have been searching for her for years and I have had no luck. My parents have been together for almost thirty years and my dad still lights up when mom walks into the room. He sees no one else when she is around. I still see them sneaking off together when they think no one notices. I want that. Wes can be an ass sometimes, but I know he wants that too.
Alpha Castor from the Redwood Pack was our ally, so Wes and I were invited. But my asshole brother claims to be over these kinds of events. While he made excuses not to go, I attended every single one, along with every business meeting, conference, gala, every frigging picnic that was held. I chose to try and find our mate while he chose to mope about making decisions that just passed me off.
Crazy enough, Wes and I see eye to eye on everything except finding our mate. We used to take these trips together when we were younger, but he changed after Canada. He refuses to talk to me about what changed after that trip. Whatever happened, he decided he was done searching for our mate and buried himself in pack duties instead.
As we got settled and ready to depart, Wes' voice sounded in my head,
"Gold Moon Pack was attacked by rogues last night and they lost some members. Alpha Stephen thinks they are working with those blood suckers. We should head there to help, then you can get back to your search this weekend."
"What do you mean WE?"
No response.
The cabin door opened and my asshole twin strolled in with a few of our warriors. That was in the opposite direction of where we were headed. Oh just f*****g great!
Wesley POV
Wyatt sulked the entire flight, barely offering any input to the discussion about the attack at Gold Moon Pack. Sometimes I wonder if mother is sure he is the older twin. He frustrates me. So what if I was diverting the mate chase trip? This was official pack business and he was still an Alpha with duties.
"Anything to add, Wyatt?" I poked, doubting he even heard what was said.
"There isn't enough information here to analyze. Combing over the bits Alpha Steven was able to share is pointless. We should discuss when we have more to go on." I scoffed at his relaxed manner, as if this was a recreational trip.
"Alpha Wesley, Alpha Wyatt has a point." Agreed one of my top warriors, earning a few nods from the others.
I was irritated. Wyatt had his usual smug look on his face hearing the others disagree with my strategy.
"Very well. Alpha Wyatt has a good point. When we get to Gold Moon, you three can go with him to discuss all the details of the attack with his Beta Grayson." I suggested grouping Wyatt with his groupies. "You two will come with me to meet with Alpha Steven to discuss what he got out of the rogue they caught." Wyatt's brows were furrowed. I knew he was annoyed.
“Wes,” He stressed my name in annoyance. “Both visiting Alpha should meet with Alpha Steven. It’s a more respectful approach. Don’t you agree, Brother?” I was seething. I nodded.
“Great! Glad we could agree on something. Kev, you and the warriors will meet with Beta Grayson to get more intel. Wes, Dex and I will go to meet with Alpha Steven and re-convene after.”
Wyatt was grinding my gears with his smug attitude. The pack came first and, as much as he knew that, his mind was clouded by the never-ending dream of finding this fated mate of ours. When this trip proved that this mystery fated mate was still not found, we could finally move on and get my back-up plan actioned.
He would thank me eventually.
