Chapter 16

Kai

Each attempt to find Aaliyah has been futile. Her scent is everywhere, like she had run to every place there was, or that her scent was just that much stronger. Jason has made it out of the infirmary finally and he is back to searching for her as well. With the threat of a war looming, there is only so much we can go out and look for her without leaving the pack unprotected. I should have marked her. Had I marked her I would be able to find her, she would be calling out to me, whether she meant to or not. Travis has been looking during the day, doing as much digging as he can to track her down, but so far, he has come up empty handed. I head down to the infirmary. Healer Douglas has been doing all kinds of research trying to come up with anything that can help us with Aaliyah and until today he has not been able to tell me anything. I walk into his office and find him deep in a book. He looks up as I shut the door. "Alpha, I don't know if this even means anything, it's from the book of legends..." I almost stand up and leave when he mentions that book. Nothing in it is true. We all have been warned of that book since we were children. I clear my throat, "are we sure anything in that book is even worth reading?" "No, but it's closer than anything else I have found". I nod and wait for him to start talking. Instead of talking he hand me the book to read. I glance down at it and read.

The Queen of Darkness

The queen of darkness will be the destruction of the realm. She will be born hated and know nothing other than hate from the realm she destroys. Legend says that she will have a mate of each species, only taking the strongest of its kind to do her bidding, to be ruled by her. They will all share her until she completes the task of freeing her true king. The king of Darkness. These men will come to her, they will find her when the darkness in her mind has been unleashed.

I read the short article over and over again to try and make sense of it. I throw the book on his desk and glare at him. "Which part do you think fits? She has one mate, and that is me, I will not share her. She isn't dark and I bow to no one!" Healer Douglas flinches as I scream at him from across the desk. Even as I say it, I think of her forcing me to submit to her. I think of Adrien determined to do anything to please her- needing to do everything to please her. I push the thoughts out of my head and stand up. "Keep looking Douglas, research the queen of darkness. Before he can respond I leave his office slamming the door behind me. I have to find her, if any part of that is true, I had to stop her. If any part of that is true, it isn't just a war we need to be worried about. I head out of the pack house linking Axel as I go, 'going out to look, be back tomorrow." "Good luck", he says back. I grab the backpack I use every day when I go look for her and head into the forest.

I travel for ours, in both forms. I'm trying to catch a stronger scent I could follow. I even smell her near the human territory. The thought of Nyx going on a killing spree leaving a sea of dead bodies in her wake is scary as hell. It wouldn't just be her the hunters would want to kill anymore. It would be every other wolf as well.

"Have you found anything?"

Jason's voice says in my head. I have been keeping Jason away from searching for her and it hasn't been easy. I had to use my alpha command on him to make sure he didn't try and sneak out to look for her alone. She had already proven she would kill him; I would rather not test her.

"No... Seems like I never do. I'm going to start loitering around borders. Maybe someone caught her".

"Kai...you know no one caught her. Only reason we did was because she had been shot with tranquilizers."

I sigh, he's right, she is way too powerful to be caught. I'm not even sure she won't kill me. I don't understand how I got sucked into her so fast. Mate bond or not, we just met, and I am completely in love with her.

"I'll keep in touch Jason".

I break the link and head toward the magic territory. She wasis half witch, maybe she knew a place around the area that she could hide out. The closer I get to the borders, the stronger her scent got, and I know she is there. I stare over the border. She isn't outside which means she willingly went in. Pacing back and forth I take my phone out and call Sebastian. "My mate is over there, and I would like her back", I say. To my surprise, he laughs at me, "My mate is with me where she belongs, she has no interest in going back to your dog pound". He hangs up the phone. Adrian roars in my head and I almost can't control the shift. I fight for control as he tries to break free and tear the place to the ground. I take deep calming breaths before jumping over the border. My mate is coming home with me, whether he wants her to or not. I link my beta on what's going on and he sends a team to me, I may need backup going into the lion's den. I thank the goddess that they don't have great scent as I walk in. I can smell my mate strongly, her scent overpowering every other scent here. Then it hits me. The heat. How the f**k could she be in heat again already? My nose carries me right into the village, my loins burning with need. I scan the competition, they seem relaxed, they don't know of her presence yet. I trail along the wall, her scent getting stronger and stronger until I look up. There on the balcony to the castle is my mate kissing Sebastian. I freeze preparing for jealousy to overwhelm me, but it doesn't. Adrien is strangely okay with it. In fact, he lusts more seeing them together and anticipating our arrival. We lock eyes for a moment, and he nods motioning for me to come up to his level. Goddess, do I want to, but this feels wrong. The books words coming back to me. The rational part of my brain wants to fly up and murder him, but Adrien has other plans, the scent of her heat too much to bear. I walk up the winding staircase into the castle to find Aaliyah already waiting just inside. Her eyes are red so I can tell she still isn't in control. Adrien pushes forward, demanding we take our mate, the scent of her heat almost bringing me to my knees. Her voice is so full of lust and power, I immediately grab her and slam her into the wall, my lips grabbing hers. She rips at my shirt with her claws that have come out, scrapping my chest and stomach with them as she tries to tear my shirt off me. I grab my shirt tearing whats left of it off and follow with my pants. The hungry look in her eyes have me undressing faster than I ever have before. She pulls the loose dress she is wearing over her head and I grab her, lifting her up by her thighs as she wraps her legs around my waist. I plunge into her, a groan ripping from my lips as she cries out. Her claws scratch at my back leaving long trails of blood in their wake as I thrust in and out of her relentlessly. I look over at him for the first time and notice the puncture wounds on his neck. A black crescent moon circled it like a tattoo. "You marked him!" I raged at her. Again, her eyes flickered, this time they rested on purple. Sobs immediately started coming out of her mouth as she crumbled to the ground. "I-I'm so sorry Kai, I c-can't control it, I don't know what's happening to me. It wants to take over." I rush over to her and cradle her in my arms as she cries. "Kai, I-it's going to take me again at some point, I know it." "Shh, we will figure it out, I won't let it have you." Sebastian comes over and drops to his knees in front of her, "we won't let it take you". I glare at him wanting to rip his damn head off, but Kai has gone silent and no matter how hard I try to be angry, to hate him, to kill him, I can't. His eyes are on her, worry etched into them, "I am coming wherever you are going." I swallow hard trying to make sense of this. The only thing I can think about is the words in that stupid book.

"Alpha, we are standing outside the territory, are you okay?"

Jason's voice says in my head. Sighing, I pull Aaliyah up into my arms and carry her bridal style out of the castle, Sebastian following behind me.

Something is very wrong, we need to get back to the pack house, we have much to discuss.

I reply to him as I lead the way to the border. Sebastian doesn't say anything to me until we get close. "This is impossible, I'm at a loss. I assume you don't know how this has happened either?" He asks me. I let out a long breath, "I don't know, but I have something you need to read." He looks at me warily as we cross the border.
