I could feel Nyx pacing, anxiety rolling off her as I slowly opened my eyes. Panic took over as I realized I was on a couch and not in the forest. I was dressed in a white medical gown. The memories from the night before hitting me all at once and I leap to my feet looking for an escape. My eyes scan the room, taking in my surroundings. A desk sits in the main area of the room with a big gray rug under it. There are chairs in front of the desk and a huge window behind the desk. The window would let in a lot of light if it wasn’t still pouring rain outside. Pictures lined the walls; most were of what I assume past alphas or elders. Fluffy armchairs sat around me. That was when I noticed the wolf asleep in one of them. I growled as panic took me over. The wolf stirred at my growl. He opened his eyes and shot up looking around until he focused on me. I backed up against the wall, Nyx was trying to take over, to get us to safety. I knew my eyes were flashing colors and possibly smoking as she fought. “Hey, it’s ok, calm down, my name is Jason”, he said. “Why am I still alive Jason? I thought for sure you all would have killed me by now”. He took a deep breath, “you are the alphas mate, I won’t harm you. I am the gamma of this pack.” Of course. He is the gamma. Gammas are meant to protect the Luna, that makes a bit more sense. “That doesn’t answer my question, Jason. We both know the alpha will never have me, so back to my original question, why am I still alive?” I glance at the door wondering if I could get to it before he alerts the pack. Jason notices immediately, “please don’t try and run, alpha Kai has not reported you yet”, he pauses and sits back down, “that means he is entertaining the idea of you being his mate”. I scoff at him, “we both know that if he keeps me, it will doom your pack and his life. Not to mention, who is to say I even want him?” My eyes travel to the window. I could shift and go through the window. I would be into the forest before anyone is alerted and out of their territory before they caught me, especially since I have it raining like the great flood out there. It would wash my scent away faster than ever. Jason sighs, “look, I can’t let you go, but until he rejects you, I will die with you. I won’t let anyone harm you, I physically can’t.” I want to tell him to f**k off, I don’t need his protection, but before I do, the office door opens and in walks no other but my mate. My heart rate picks up as I glance at his gorgeous face. I knew I could never have a mate with who I am, but since I lived a life on the run, I never thought I would meet him. He stares at me for what seems like forever, looking me up and down. He gives me an apologetic look, “I will be right outside”, he says as he shuts the door behind him. I glance back to Alpha Kai. “I would love to get off of your land, you just have to let me go”, I say trying to keep my voice even with the vicious desire taking over my whole body at the sound of his voice. Before I reach it, I turn around “Alpha I am not a bad person, and I didn’t ask for this. I’m just trying to survive.” I open the door and find Jason standing guard. “The alpha is letting me go, can you please show me the way out?” “I’m coming with you”, he says. I look him over, “the alpha didn’t reject me.”. He nods, “I’m coming with you, and we can do this together.” I look at him with tears in my eyes “keep up, I am on the run.” He smirks and shifts in front of me, shredding his clothes. I do the same and lead the way out, him close on my heels.
