Aaliyah

“Stop it...” I raise my hand to my head, sleepily. The prodding continues with more force. “Let me slee-”, I trail off as I realize it’s Nyx in my head, pawing like crazy to get me up. I slowly open my eyes, the light hurts and I shut them again fast. A hand gently grazes me forehead and, in a panic, I leap into the air. It takes a second for my eyes to focus and I take in Jason sitting next to me, a worried look on his face. He has a wet towel in his hand, I assume he was using on my forehead. The memories come flooding back to me like a tidal wave and I have to fight the urge to vomit. My mother’s coven came for me, for us, and I could have destroyed them. Nyx sits proud in my head at the thought. Neither of us knew we were capable of that. I look to Jason, “how long have I been out?”. He sighs, dropping the towel in his hand. “Two days, I was starting to worry you wouldn’t wake up. How are you feeling?” I have to think about his question because for once, I actually feel good. I can’t explain it, I feel almost euphoric, like something great just fell into place. “I feel great actually, I’m sorry I passed out on you for so long and worried you, I have never done anything like that before, I suppose it drained me”. He stares at me as though he is trying to figure out the best way to tell me something. “Um Aaliyah, I have news and information that we need to talk about. Also please never apologize for saving our lives, you were amazing, and I have never seen anything like it.” I blush a light pink color, Nyx, and I can’t help the pride we feel for protecting our own. Wait, our own? Is this my gamma? Have I accepted him? “Alpha Kai is going to war...for you”, he pauses and takes a deep breath, “we need to get back before our pack is destroyed, he will need us to help fight”. “Wait, what! Times are changing, Aaliyah, you are a masterpiece, hell a work of art, the fact that you unknowingly said our packs isn’t even the half of it. He needs you; we need you, and you need us.” Dazed, I look around at our surroundings. We are in a meadow filled with flowers; I can hear a creek somewhere nearby. A fire is roaring with fresh fish in a pan cooking. Maybe I was wrong about Jason, maybe he could survive in the wild. It also looks as though he has dressed me. My cheeks go pink when I realize that means he had to see and touch all of me. Ever since Kai took me, the thought for more has been a constant.

Nyx doesn’t talk much; she doesn’t need to as we are always on the same page. However right now, she is making it known where her feeling lies. I can’t help but feel pride for her confidence and happy at the fact that she is my wolf and best friend.

“I’m scared Nyx, what if we fail? What if they all die because of us?”

“Over our dead body! This has always been our destiny; I can feel it. We must go back, claim our mate and claim our pack.”

I smile thinking Nyx is right, we will die trying. This is our destiny. I look to Jason, who is waiting patiently, knowing I was talking to my wolf. “We need to move fast Jason; we need to get back as soon as possible.” He lets out a breath of relief and stands, “We are days out, and assuming we don’t get attacked, we can probably be back in a few days. Alpha Kai is awaiting your return”. A spark of hope ignites in my chest after that. He really wants me. He is willing to break the peace they have had forever for me. I can’t wait to feel his hands run down my body again, his tongue assaulting my mouth, his strong arms lifting me- goddess I need to stop, my core is on fire and I’m sure Jason can smell it. Jason glances at me and I notice his nostrils flaring before he looks away. I try and hide my embarrassment by standing up, “hey, we need to go, our people need us”. He smiles and grabs our backpacks, “Lead the way Luna”. My trust in Nyx is so strong that I prefer traveling as a wolf, so I decide to shift, ripping my clothes to pieces once again. Jason is more controlling. He carefully takes his clothes of and places them in our backpacks before shifting himself. It’s then that it hits me. Gulping, I step out of his grasp, “I am not interested in mating with you, if you don’t wish for me to kill you, I suggest you leave. We could put an end to all the people who have hunted you and made this your life.” Nxy snarls at him and shifts midair. She takes off running through the trees. I am desperate to get away, to put distance between my heat and those men. I need to find a place to hide and wait in agony alone until this end. Before I can think of anything else, Nyx suddenly stops and howls into the air once, twice, three times, before running in another direction.

She doesn’t reply just keeps running. I hear a howl behind us, I know it is Jason chasing us, his wolf has full control, he isn’t safe right now to be around, and I’m sure the vampire king is closing in as well. Kai peers over his shoulder at me before sniffing the air and growling. He looks to Laurant, “Why are you chasing my mate, her heat shouldn’t affect you or your vampires”, he says, clearly struggling with my heat himself. “That is where you are mistaken alpha Kai. I also did not notice a mark on her neck, you say she is your mate. Are you willing to die for her alpha?” A sick smirk plays on his lips as Kai roars. “You will leave my mate and find your betrothed, but I assure you, it isn’t her.” Kai takes a threatening step forward, “and I wouldn’t threaten me again unless you want to die by my hands”. Laurant takes a step back, “I will leave you today, but know, everyone will attack you for this, and she will be mine anyway”. With that he disappears just as Jason stumbles out, eyes black with his wolf. He growls at Kai. Kai’s eyes immediately turn black and in an instant, he is shifted back, lurching at Jason, who seems feral. They become a blur of biting and growling, the pain in my belly too great to focus on. The next time I look, Kai has Jason by the throat, demanding he submit. It only takes a moment before Jason yelps, submitting to his alpha. Kai releases Jason and Jason bares his neck, before limping off hurt. Kai turns to look at me, lust in his eyes, “I heard you needed me,” he grounds out, struggling to control his wolf as another wave of pain courses through me. “Please make the pain go away,” I say as I clutch my stomach. He lets out a growl before stalking toward me, “you let him touch what is mine,” he growled, gripping my arm and pulling me up. “I can smell him all over you.” I whimper at his angry tone, his heated stare boring through me. He pushes me roughly against a tree, his hand gripping my neck, and oddly, that makes the inferno inside me burn brighter and I can feel my juices dripping down my legs. He brings his face close to my neck, pulling my hair back roughly and dragging his nose up my neck, inhaling my scent. “If I ever see another man near you again, you will see what it’s like to really be hunted”. Nyx flashes in my eyes and he lets out a small growl, “both of you,” he finishes.
