Chapter 11

Kai Something felt off leaving the pack territory again. Warning signs were flaring to life in my head, and I couldn’t seem to shake the feeling. I just want to find my gamma and go home, I’m sure we don’t have long before a war is among us. I head into the forest, nostrils flaring as I try to pick up his scent. I still can’t scent anything but my mate’s heat. Sighing, I head back in the direction we came from. I can only hope that Jason was already on his way back, staying away from the pack for days is not a good idea. Sure, I want to rip his head off for touching my mate, but really, I’m more confused than anything. Her heat, her pheromones, they are stronger than anything I have ever scented. I mean s**t, Jason went feral, his wolf was blocking him. I damn near went feral; this isn’t normal. I guess that is to be expected with a hybrid. We don’t know anything about her. No we don’t instead of trying to understand and help, we have hunted our mate our entire life,” Adrien says in my head. I hang my head in shame. He’s right, we always did this, attack first ask questions later. We search for hours, until eventually we run across his scent. It’s faint but it’s there. Following it deeper into the forest, I pick up another scent, one that has me on edge instantly. Witches. Did word spread that fast? I shift and howl out to my gamma, listening for an answering howl that never comes. Adrien runs through the forest, hot on his trail. The scent of witch gets stronger with each stride, and panic starts to grip at my mind. He’s a strong gamma, third in the pack, he should be okay. I come through a clearing and finally see him. He is passed out on the ground, his fur his matted with blood, an open wound in his stomach. His fur is singed, like it was lit on fire, and his breathing is labored. Adrien rushes over to him. f**k. The singed fur, definitely witches. Adrien retreats leaving me standing there in human form. I bend down to assess Jason’s injuries, shocked he hasn’t healed by now. Lifting him up carefully, I start to jog out of the clearing. Whoever did this is gone, there scent lingers, but not strong. I need to get him back to healer Douglas; his injuries look fatal. “Alpha, we are under attack, Jungle pride pack!” comes Axel’s voice in my head. f**k. I shift and grab Jason’s body, slinging him onto my back and take off running back to my pack. “Get my Luna to safety. Get the women and children to safety. I am on my way back, stall them as long as possible,” I growl through the link. That weak pack has the nerve to bring a fight to my territory. I will show them what happens when the mess with me, with my Luna, with my pack. Adrien is fuming with so much rage it’s blurring his vision. He runs faster, for miles and miles. I’m not sure how much time has passed, but the sickening feeling in my stomach keeps getting worse. Adrien halts when he hears the howl, the howl of our mate. It’s triumph, and it sends shivers down my spine. The amount of power in that howl. The closer I get, the darker the clouds get, and soon rain is pummeling down on us drenching us in water and mud. As I get closer to the pack house, I see chaos around me, but that isn’t what attracts my attention. The white wolf dripping in blood, guts and rain does. She is standing over Alpha Jackson’s lifeless body, mangled pieces of his body surrounding him. Her eyes are smoking, her fur is giving off a purple mist. I have never seen anything sexier in my life. Her power radiates from her body as she leaps off Alpha Jackson and runs to flank Axel, ripping two wolves off his back as she does. I race over toward the pack house to deposit Jason inside to be tended by the healer. I step back out of the pack house and her gaze lands on me. She prances over to me, nuzzling me, smearing blood all over my neck and face. The power radiating from her, almost sends me back a few feet. Adrien licks her snout and jumps into the fight, ripping heads off and claiming dominance over the battlefield. By the time I get to the last one, Aaliyah takes a flying leap over me and inserts her paw into his chest, effectively ripping out his beating heart. Her wolf picks up the heart and comes to drop it by my feet, then bares her neck in submission before plopping down to her belly and purring in front of me. I shift immediately and reach out to her, waiting for her to do the same. She shifts and takes my hand and I pull her up and into me for a long passionate kiss. I can feel all eyes on us. We are completely covered in blood and guts, naked, dirty, yet wrapped in each other's arms, kissing like our lives depended on it. When she finally pulls away, I can see her wolf in her eyes, nothing but admiration shines in them. Did I say the moon goddess punished me? I was wrong. She blessed me in the best possible way, Aaliyah truly is my other half. I grab her hand and bring it to my lips placing a kiss on her bloody fingertips, “round one is done, do you have it in you for round two?” I grin as she pulls, her hands-free scanning everyone who is staring at us, whispering. Her face turns to a frown, and she looks up at me, “they don’t want me, I can hear them, they want me gone.” I look around, and sigh, “give them time, I didn’t exactly have time to tell them of your presence.” She shifted back into her wolf and sulked back toward the pack house; head lowered. She seems to be more comfortable in her wolf form. I head back to the pack house making a mental note to call a meeting in the morning and introduce their Luna to the pack. For now, I will go inside and enjoys my mates heat that is clawing at my brain. …... Unknown I watch him from a distance, irritation seeping through my blood. The scent of her heat driving me wild, I can’t help but wonder why she is here. Why now? I knew her first heat cycle she was mine, the invisible bond pulling me to her, but she was so good at hiding. My lips curl back, and a growl escapes. It looks as though our long period of peace is over. Why the hell is he willing to die for her? I turn away from the pack and with a silent crack, disappear back to my territory. Lucas jumps at my sudden appearance, face turning into a scowl. “I wish you would stop f*****g doing that, you almost gave me a damn heart attack,” he seethes. “Did you at least find her?” I nod, trying to keep my anger under control from seeing her with another. “I did...but it’s complicated”. He glowers at me, “all this time, we have looked all this f*****g time, and you didn’t even bring her back with you!” His accusatory tone pisses me off to no end, and I have to walk away before I rip his head from his shoulders. “Lucas, the time has come for war, they will never let her live, and I know something they don’t, I know something that she doesn’t know, and that will be our token in winning the war”. His mouth hangs agape as I walk out and to my quarters.
