It was dark as we walked back to the house in silence. The wind blew, the temperature was dropping. I was glad tonight we would have shelter. The hallway by the back door was dark. A faint light glowed around the corner. The sound of family filled the space. A sound I’d only heard when visiting the houses of friends or on TV. Everyone was in the kitchen and the family room.
