It was a bright Monday morning when I heard the sound of my cat snoring . Again?! Lately my sleep schedule has been a disaster , it’s just this book I m reading , it’s a page turner and I can’t keep it down ! It was now 7 am and I had to get my day started , I take a quick refreshing shower and decide on wearing a cute floral top and some fitted jeans , I work at the central library so we have a strict dress code to follow , something that shows less skin and is not too tight , oh and no dresses that one I didn’t like because I love dresses , they just make me feel so comfortable and effortless .
Before heading out I quickly grab a cardigan and tote bag putting all essentials and library record book which I brought home last night to fill some entries of the new books , but I got busy reading and did nothing , guess I’ll have a lot of work to catch up on, locking the door behind I make a bee line towards my car . I live in a condo and I love my space , it’s personal and I designed it myself. Living alone in New York with five overprotective brothers who still treat you like their baby sister and won’t let you out of site , trust me convincing wasn’t easy but on my 21 birthday after I graduated from college I wanted to live and explore on my own , they smother so much so I had to , so I emotionally manipulated them into letting me have my own space , but of course there was a catch for them , this condo is owned by one of my brothers , he’s in real estate and it’s just a block away from their place so after a lot of drama they let me . It’s been a year now and I love it , I would miss them and their constant bickering but they are never not here, unless not in town which is rare for all five of them to be at the same time , but I love them just as they are . They practically raised me after our mom and dad passed away when I was 4 and ever since I just have my brothers through thick and thin .
The library is a 20 minute drive from my place and I make quick stop at the cafe to grab some breakfast and latte .
As I arrived there I knew it was just gonna be me , that’s the thing I like about libraries the solitude , the quiet and the smell of old paper and stories , it feels safe like home .I quickly got my work started , and I have a load of that .
I was halfway through the first pile when I noticed my best friend walking — more like dragging herself — towards me, a steaming cup of coffee in one hand and the other dramatically palming her tired forehead. And that's how I knew she'd had quite a night.
“ how many drinks last night ?”
“ I lost count after 8 , ugh I hate waking up early for this stupid library “ she groaned, drowning the entire cup of coffee down her throat in one long, desperate gulp.
She hates working here , but honestly it was not a choice really . So last Monday she was driving home from ofcourse a strangers place and she bumped into this car , the man was apparently pretty rude and wouldn't stop calling her a "wasted blonde," so she vandalised his car out in the open and they had a pretty heated argument which landed them both doing some charity work to compensate — hence the dreadful early morning library visits.
This is my best friend my complete opposite , she’s everything that I am not and she’s honestly too cool for me . I met Delilah in freshman year college when we were paired together for some project , she’s been my constant since even with our different personalities and preferences we love each other like sisters . She might appear as bold , blunt and edgy but with me she’s the softest and most kind hearted person ever , she has other friends who are just like her , but we have special bond , I know how emotional and sensitive she is so we cry and listen to each other rant without judgement - we're each others safe place .
"Hey, you remember about the dinner tonight, right?"
"Of course — cleared my schedule for you, darlin'."
Tonight my brothers invited us over for dinner because all of them were in town and wanted to catch up .
“See you at 6 “
She shouted from across the hall , already walking towards the exit .
