The discovery of EdC’s second album proved beyond a doubt that the owners of Red Dragon Records had been lying about the extent of their involvement with the missing band. If the band was even missing at all, then the label wouldn’t have had access to these records.
My earlier theory that “The Blackening” was just a pretentious publicity stunt may have been more accurate than I realized. The label and the band – if there was even a distinction between the two – must have collaborated from the start. By canceling a highly-anticipated show and announcing the band’s mysterious disappearance, they must have angered many fans. But many of their most devoted fans must have been even more intrigued by the mystery of it all.
