‘Are you sure you’re okay?’ Elizabeth stared with concern at her friend. ‘You took a real tumble.’
‘I’m fine.’ Melody waved a dismissive hand, the bracelets on her wrist jangling together. ‘It’s you I’m worried about. Hell, we’ve all been worried about you.’
The two of them were sitting in a corner of the dining room on cold plastic chairs.
‘How did you find me?’ Elizabeth asked.
‘Your neighbour, the nurse? I bribed him with a pair of Rebels tickets. He told me you’ve missed singing and the band.’
‘Did he now?’ Elizabeth said, through gritted teeth. ‘I’m fine, Melody, you didn’t need to come all this way.’
‘Well, you weren’t answering my messages so yeah, I did have to come here.’
