‘It’s so loud in here!’ Elizabeth shouted in Gary’s ear.
‘Cool, isn’t it?’ Gary placed his hand on her knee, and she tried not to flinch. ‘Sorry. I’m being too forward again, aren’t I?
‘It’s okay,’ Elizabeth said, with a nervous laugh. ‘I’m just not used to male affection anymore.’
‘That is so sad.’ He leant closer to whisper in her ear. ‘Do you want to dance?’
‘To this?’ Elizabeth glanced at the smoke-filled dance floor, where a handful of people were throwing their bodies into the strangest shapes. ‘What kind of music is this, anyway?’
‘Soft rock, I think,’ Gary replied. ‘Come on.’ He grabbed her by the hand and pulled her onto the dance floor.
