3. In His Left Hand-3

140 Words

Back at his digs, Robert sat staring at the phone for a moment, trying to make sense of it all, before ringing the solicitor to find out what it was all about. ‘Mr Arbuthnot? Is that you, Henry? Sorry to bother you. Robert Bruce here. About this reading of Tom’s will. I don’t understand why you’ve got my name down as a beneficiary. Are you sure you want me to be there?’ There was a hint of exasperation in the solicitor’s voice. ‘Hasn’t that secretary of mine let you know yet? Of course, I want you there, otherwise the whole thing will be a waste of time.’ ‘I’ve been out. Why me?’ Robert was mystified. ‘You’ll see. Can’t go into details right now, but make sure you turn up. Sorry, got another call waiting, can’t wait. See you after the funeral. Don’t forget. Bye.’
