8:10 AM
The executive floor lingers in the soft perfume of fresh brew, wrapping every step in warmth.
Rhys steps out of the elevator dressed in a navy blue suit that fits perfectly across his shoulders. His hair was still damp from the shower.
He carries a slim leather notebook and walks with a kind of calm that makes people nervous. There was no need for him to introduce himself as the HR had already done that by posting him as the senior strategy consultant which was transferred from London on the company's group chat.
No one dared to question the transfer since the order came from the executive board.
He walks down the open hallway, his eyes scanning the environment as he moves slowly. He already knows the layout of the office since he took his time to prepare everything.
Her office was at the far end of the floor, it was made of glass, the door was open letting the Parisian light pour in.
Eleanor Voss was already at her desk. she was dressed in a cream silk blouse, her dark hair is tied in a rough ponytail with a small strand brushing against her cheek.
Rhys smiles to himself as he makes his way to his office which was two doors down. He walked into the small space which was provided for him by the company. He drops his stuff as he settles in.
After some time, she walks past his office to the coffee station with a phone pressed against her ear as she discussed about business with the person on the call.
He walks behind her and leans against the door with his arms crossed as he watches her. "She is more of a beauty in person",he whispers.
Eleanor prepares her coffee unaware of the eyes watching her every move. after she was done she turns to leave but in that moment, their eyes meet.
Her hazel eyes flicker with a curiosity but Rhys couldn't tell as they stare at each other. She gives him a polite nod as a way to welcome of welcoming him to the company before returning to her office.
The door of her office closes with a soft click. Rhys stands for a moment before returning to his office smiling like a child.
He returns to his desk and pulls out a notepad from the drawer. He opens a blank page and writes a single line in black ink;
Day 1
She looked at me but doesn't show much attention. Perfect beginning.
He closed his notepad and loosen his tie to look more approachable as he thinks of his next plan.
The day went by with Rhys examining the condition of the company. At seven, the floor is almost empty but her light is still on.
He walks by with a stack of files that were of no use to him. He stops at her half open door and sees her standing by the window with her phone in her hands, her shoulders were slightly bent as if she was carrying a huge stone.
For a moment, Rhys sees her looking lonely and tired. His chest tighten with discomfort as he observes her.
Eleanor noticed his presence and turns to face him with a smile, clearly a mask to hide her real expression.
"Need something?", she asked in french.
He lifts the files and let's out a small smile like the one he practiced in the mirror that morning.
"Sorry to disturb ma'am, I was looking for the archive room but lost my way. It's my first day here",he explains.
"Down the hall way by your left",she tells him as she turns back again to face the window.
"Thank you madame Voss",he thanks her. The formal address makes her pause for a second. She responds with a nods and Rhys walks out slowly, closing the door behind him.
He makes his way to the archive room with a smile on his face. Today, she noticed him what about tomorrow.
Will she notice the way he makes his coffee or will she remember his name. But all to know, is that he was going to make it happen.
He has waited for thirteen years just to get an opportunity to revenge in his brother and he wuldn't mind waiting for a few weeks.
He returns to his office and locked the door behind him. He opens his notepad again and writes under the first sentence;
She's already lonely. The fall will be beautiful.
