1520 Words
Demond wakes up feeling the warmth of the morning sunlight streaming through the curtains, casting a soft glow in the room. As he stretches his arms, he can't help but think about the conversation with his father the previous day. The news of having to return home brought a mix of emotions - anticipation, apprehension, and a sense of responsibility. He gazes at Agatha, still peacefully asleep beside him, her serene expression bringing a sense of calm amidst the whirlwind of thoughts in his mind. Demond departed from his familial abode at the tender age of 17 subsequent to the tragic demise of his mother. She perished in a plane crash while returning from an exotic sojourn in Dubai. The loss of his mother took a profound emotional toll on him, plunging him into a state of melancholy and despondency, to the extent that he necessitated medicinal intervention. His erstwhile penchant for revelry and socializing waned, and he withdrew from the social sphere, eschewing school and extracurricular activities. The pervasive reminders of his mother within the confines of his home became unbearable, prompting his decision to seek solace elsewhere. The decision to depart from the place that held so many memories of his mother was not an easy one, but he knew that he needed to find a new environment to begin the healing process. Despite the challenges that lay ahead, Demond embarked on a journey towards self-discovery and emotional recovery, determined to navigate through the storm of grief towards a brighter tomorrow. He just woke up one morning and told his dad that he wanted to travel to England to further his education. The father who was engrossed in his business could care more or less. He agreed and Demond traveled. After graduating from school, Demond delved into the realm of real estate, amassing a substantial fortune and acquiring stakes in various enterprises. In due course, his investments flourished, ultimately leading to his acquisition of those very companies. While his father's renown played a part in facilitating some of his accomplishments, it has been more than half a decade since he last set foot in his childhood abode. As the absence of his mother weighed heavily on his heart, Demond found himself consumed by introspection, oblivious to the persistent ringing of Agatha's call. The persistent ringing of the phone woke Agatha. Realizing it was her phone she stretched her arm to pick it up from the bedside lamp table and noticed it was Jake ringing her. She immediately switched the phone off. She turned to check up on Demond hoping the call didn't wake him…but instead she noticed his teary eyes, and how focused his gaze were at the ceiling. For a moment she thought Demond saw the caller and panicked but mustered the courage to call his name. Demond!!! Demond!!! Demond immediately regained consciousness and turned to Agatha. A tear rolled down his cheek. Agatha saw the tear, her heart start pounding fast as fear encapsulates her face…thinking Demond had seen the caller. Demond noticed her trembling lips…and was wondering what was wrong. But she immediately rushed him…hugging him tightly. Demond noticed her heart beating fast and her temperature rising. “You don't have to worry babe, my Dad will like you" Agatha pulls herself out… staring straight into his eyes. " I'm not worried about your dad. I noticed a tear on your cheek and I got scared” Demond interrupts. “I was just thinking about my mom, the thought of her absence just makes me feel sad” “Ohhh…” Agatha felt relieved, realizing Demond didn't see the caller instead he was missing his mom. “I'm sorry babe” She uses her finger to wipe a tear on his eyelid and hugs him tightly. “I need to go pick up some things from the mall before we travel” Agatha said, “That's fine. I will send the driver to get them for you. "I prefer to get them myself,” she insists. "Ok…” Shareholders leaving the conference room after the meeting. Bernard walked to his office alongside Bush. Both men were laughing at a new business contract they snatched from a rival company Cole's Oil and Gas. “They think they could go against us, all these new dogs don't know how to play the game”. Bernard said with a smirk. "Maybe we should send them flowers, so they don't cry…” Bush said “Hahaha…that's a nice idea” Both men laugh as they both walk into the elevator. Bernard stretches his hand and taps on 15, indicating 15th floor. Bernard's office is situated on the 15th floor of the majestic Talk Rising building. The office exudes a sense of sophistication, adorned with exquisite artifacts that add a touch of elegance. A particular section of the office offers a breathtaking panoramic view of the bustling city, enclosed by sleek glass walls. The walls are embellished with captivating artworks and inspiring quotes that serve as a source of motivation. Additionally, there is a designated area for relaxation, furnished with luxurious chairs and an elegant table. Adorning the table are decanters of fine whiskey and crystal tumblers, adding a hint of refinement to the space. Both men sat on the comfy chairs across each other…Bernard took two empty glasses and began to turn some whiskey into them “How's your son" Bush asked "He's fine…he's actually coming home today” "Hmm…that's great news. I think the last time I saw him, he was barely reaching my shoulder…he smirks. However, have you discussed the contract with him because they are coming of age or what do you think? It would be nice if we start making arrangements for their marriage”. He gave a glass of whiskey to Bush. Sips from his “Yes…I have discussed it with my son already. There's nothing to worry about”. He smiles to hide his guilt. “No I'm not worried at all, I just can't wait to see our grandkids running around…” Both men burst into laughter. They both sipped from their cups once more. “I have been thinking…I would like my name to be added to the name of the company…so instead of Ben's Oil, we can say B&B Oil and Gas Limited. What do you think?” “I suppose the B&B stands for Bernard and Bush” “Exactly" Bush replied with a smirk "No, I don't want that” "But why? We've been in business for a long time and you don't think it's time for my name to be included" "Can we not talk about this now” He holds the glass with a firm grip while looking away. “Ok...fine. But I want you to think about it" Bush drops his glass and stands to leave. Agatha gazed out the window of Demond's private jet, her mind drifting to memories of intimate encounters with Jacob, her former lover. "This is truly exquisite,"he murmured with closed eyes, relishing the flavor of the succulent meat before him. "Without a doubt, this ranks among the finest steaks I have had in quite some time...indeed, it is a culinary delight,"Demond remarked, his smile reflecting genuine pleasure. Demond's compliments on the stake roused Agatha from her reverie. A sudden craving overcame her, prompting her to gracefully make her way to the kitchen. Retrieving a chilled bottle of champagne from the fridge, she selected two pristine glasses from the cabinet along with a sophisticated cork opener. Being well-accustomed to indulging in wine, Agatha expertly uncorked the bottle with finesse. Setting a crystal goblet next to Demond's place setting, she poured a generous amount of wine into it before attending to her own glass positioned on her right hand side, swiftly consuming its contents in a single gulp. Seated across from Demonds, she refilled her glass promptly, savoring each sip before emptying it once more. Refilling it for the third time, she was interrupted as Demond reached out to take the bottle, a perplexed expression on his face. "Babe, is everything alright?"he inquired, concern evident in his gaze. "Nothing to worry about, I'm perfectly fine,"she replied calmly, meeting his gaze with a reassuring smile. “Babe what's the problem” Demond insisting "Nothing…I'm good,” she says once more. Demond gazes at her in disbelief. She notices his reaction and opts to deceive him. "I'm simply concerned about your father…I don't think he's going to like me” "But babe I have told you not to worry about my dad…I can assure you that he's going to like you as soon as he realizes how sweet you are”. "Agatha breathes a sigh of relief as she flashes a smile. She leans in towards Demond. Anticipating a kiss, Demond is taken aback as she swiftly snatches the bottle from his grasp. “Haaa…you think you are smart” , letting out a smile. “I'm smarter than you”. Laughing out loud as she teases him. Demond smiles…shakes his head in despair as he resumes cutting his steak.
