I locked my door, got in touch with a new moving company, and hightailed it straight to a whole different city. To make sure they could never track me down again, I didn’t buy a plane ticket with my ID. Instead, I hopped on a long-distance bus for the grueling long-haul ride. As the bus rumbled down the highway, my mind drifted back to when I was eighteen. Back then, I’d been in this exact same spot... sitting on a bus, hurtling toward a future I knew nothing about.
