Chapter 14 Hati's POV I knew Ava didn't have a stitch of clothing of her own. She had been wearing one of Grill's shirts and a pair of ripped jeans that looked like they'd been worn for days. Before coming over, I had picked out several outfits for her, including a beautiful black dress and matching heels. When we walked into the living room, Grill and Ava were talking about her staying here while he attended his Alpha ceremony. I smiled to myself. I would make sure she looked every bit like the future Luna she was. "Ava, go take a shower. I'll be in the room in a few minutes." She hesitated for a moment before nodding and disappearing upstairs. Once she was gone, I laid several dresses across the bed. Catherine needed to see exactly who Ava was. Grill's mate. There was no way I was going to let Catherine believe she still had a chance with him. Something about that woman didn't sit right with me. No one knew what she was planning, but I prayed Ava would be smart enough to keep her guard up around her. A few minutes later, I walked into the bedroom just as Ava stepped out of the bathroom with a towel wrapped around her. "Sit down," I said with a smile. She did without question. I couldn't help thinking that when Grill took her shopping, one of the first things he needed to buy her was a proper vanity. She had so much beautiful hair. I brushed it until it shined before styling it so it flowed over her shoulders with a small twisted bun pinned in the back. Next came her makeup. Nothing too dramatic. Just enough soft eyeshadow to brighten her face, a touch of blush, and black eyeliner that made her bright blue eyes stand out even more. When I finished, I held up two dresses. One was a stunning black strapless dress. The other was a flowing blue gown that matched her eyes perfectly. She looked back and forth between them, unable to decide.,I laughed softly. "The black dress." She smiled and slipped it over her head before I handed her the matching heels.Once she was dressed, she looked absolutely breathtaking. "When you're ready for your Luna ceremony, you'll need to choose your own gown," I told her. "This dress is yours." Her eyes immediately lit up. "Thank you, Luna Hati. I don't know how I'll ever repay you." I smiled warmly. "Just be good to Grill. That's all I ask." She looked surprised. "He's been through more than most people know," I continued softly. "And so have you. I truly believe the Moon Goddess brought the two of you together for a reason." She blinked back tears. "You can look in the mirror now." Ava's POV The moment Hati gave me permission, I hurried toward the mirror. I'd never worn makeup before. My old mate always preferred my face without it. "I like your clean face," he'd always tell me. He wasn't cruel. He never hit me. Yes, he had a temper, but whenever we argued, we would eventually calm down, apologize to each other, and work things out. Looking back now, I realized not everything about my past had been terrible. As I looked into the mirror, I barely recognized the woman staring back at me. The black eyeliner made my bright blue eyes stand out without being too heavy. A soft shade of eyeshadow rested on my eyelids, and a light blush warmed my cheeks. My favorite part was the light pink lip gloss. It was simple… Yet beautiful. I looked down at the black dress. At first, I hadn't been sure about wearing something so elegant, but it hugged my curves perfectly without making me feel uncomfortable. My long hair rested over my shoulders, with the small bun in the back adding the perfect touch. For the first time in a long time...I felt beautiful. And somehow, that only made me even more nervous. "Come on," Hati said gently, holding out her arm. "Grill is waiting downstairs. The elders are here, and they're ready to begin the ceremony." I took a deep breath before linking my arm through hers. It was time. Time to go downstairs. Time to stand beside Grill. And time to see what fate had planned for both of us.
