Chapter 15
Grill's POV
I had been talking with the elders when I heard footsteps coming down the staircase. Looking up, my breath caught in my throat.
Ava. She looked absolutely breathtaking. The black strapless dress hugged her curves perfectly, and her long blonde hair rested over her shoulders with a small bun pinned in the back. The light makeup Hati had put on only made her bright blue eyes stand out even more.
She looked nervous as she slowly made her way downstairs with Hati beside her. For a few seconds, I forgot everyone else was in the room. My lycan purred happily inside my head. "Mate..."
"I know," I answered him silently.
I walked toward her, never taking my eyes off her. "You look beautiful," I said honestly.
A blush spread across her cheeks. "Thank you."
I held out my hand, and after only a moment of hesitation, she placed hers in mine. The contact sent warmth through my body.
One day she wouldn't hesitate anymore. One day she would know she was safe with me. I would spend however long it took proving that.
Turning toward the room, I led her beside me. The elders smiled while Hati took her place beside Jax. Jax looked proud.
"I believe we're ready," Elder Thomas said. Everyone became quiet.
"As everyone here knows, today Grill will officially become the Alpha of the Blue moon pack Lycan mafia pack”
My eyes scanned the room. Every member of my pack stood proudly, waiting.
"This pack was built after the war. Many of you lost family. Many lost their homes. Yet together, you rebuilt from the ashes." Several warriors nodded.
"We are here today to recognize the wolf who stood beside Alpha Jax throughout the war. The warrior who helped save countless lives and never once asked for recognition."
I looked over at Jax. He simply smiled.
"Grill, step forward."
I released Ava's hand and stood before the elders. Elder Thomas held out an ancient silver crown. It wasn't flashy. Simple vines of silver wrapped around it with a single moonstone set in the center.
"This crown has belonged to many Alphas before you. Today it becomes yours." He placed it on my head.
"I, Elder Thomas, recognize Grill Blackwood as the rightful Alpha of the Blue moon pack Lycan mafia pack
Every wolf inside the room bowed their heads. Even Ava. I hated seeing her bow to me. I reached over and gently lifted her chin.
"You never bow to me," I whispered.
Her eyes widened. "But you're my Alpha."
I smiled softly. "And you're my mate."
A faint blush colored her cheeks before she lowered her eyes again.
Elder Thomas cleared his throat with a grin. "There is one final tradition."
I turned back toward him. "The Alpha must introduce his mate to his pack."
I looked at Ava. She immediately looked terrified. Her fingers tightened around mine. "It's okay," I whispered.
"I've never spoken in front of so many people."
"You don't have to." I stepped forward. "This is Ava." The room became silent. "She isn't my Luna yet, but she is my mate, and she is under my protection."
I looked around the room, making sure every wolf heard my next words. "Anyone who disrespects her..." I let my Alpha aura roll through the room.,"...disrespects me."
Several warriors immediately lowered their heads. "You will treat her with the same respect you give me."
"Yes, Alpha," they answered together.
I looked back at Ava. She looked overwhelmed, but there were tears in her eyes. Not tears of fear. Tears of relief. For the first time since I'd met her… Someone had stood in front of an entire pack and claimed her without shame. Without hesitation. And I wasn't about to stop now. After the ceremony ended, pack members lined up one by one to congratulate me. Most of them also welcomed Ava with warm smiles.
She stayed close to my side the entire time. Across the room, however, I noticed Catherine. She smiled politely whenever someone looked her way. But the moment no one was watching...
Her eyes locked onto Ava. There was hatred in them. Cold...
Calculating...Dangerous.,
My lycan growled. "She's planning something."
I didn't know what Catherine was hiding. But I was going to find out before she had the chance to hurt my mate.
